Superchip question for Mike T.
Mike,
I got and installed my chip today, and ever since i have been having problems with my engine spark knocking or dieseling! i filled up with Texaco 93 octane i had about 3 gallons of 87 in the tank. What should i do to resolve this? It spark knocks all the way through the power band even at high rpms! Please Help!!! I never had any problems with spark knocking before the chip was installed. I have the 4.2 V6.
Thanks,
Scott

I would say to pull the chip and run that tank of fuel completely out. Just don't run out of gas doing it!! Then put the chip back in. The only other way would be to keep adding high octane gas every couple of miles till you've deluted the low octane up to the point where the chip wont cause the knock. It would really be easier to just pull the chip.

Hi Black98ASTX,
Sorry to hear you're having a problem, that is *highly* unusual, and we need to discuss this, so you should call us as soon as you reasonably can. We're open until 7 pm Eastern.
Sounds like you have either have some very poor fuel in that tank, or it's been heavily diluted, if it's never exhibited detonation before. That doesn't happen with the Superchip unless there is poor quality fuel in the tank, either from dilution or using poor quality fuel to begin with, or when something is wrong with the vehicle; Texaco is generally an excellent fuel in most places of the country, it's one of our favorites.
Just so you (and anyone else reading this) will know for future reference, anytime you have a problem like this, we suggest that you call us first, as our documentation tells you, instead of posting here and then waiting for us to come back on and respond, and then waiting again until you come back on to read that response, that's all way too slow, and we want to provide you with better & quicker service than trying to communicate here on these public F-150 Online message boards will allow. I know it can be a bit confusing sometimes, as we do try to offer as much help as we possibly can to everyone here on the boards, but there are some things that posting here won't help you, and this is one of them.
So please give us a call as soon as you get a chance, and let's go over everything, and get to the root of the problem. Of course as long as it's exhibiting detonation, you shouldn't run it like that, so if it's doing that all the time, remove the Superchip for now. If it's only doing it on heavy throttle, then you can continue to drive it, just don't use heavy throttle for now of course, this is up to your best judgement to decide.
Talk to you soon,

Just got off the phone with you thanks for all the help! As i told Mike my problem is gone and was probably my fault i didn't run the tank dry enough so i had a good 5 gallons of 87 still in it. The Superchip is awesome!! My power below 2500 RPMS is up 100% and up throughout the whole power band all i can say is it is worth every cent! Thanks again Mike for your great customer service and knowledge.

Hi Scott, (Black98STX)
Thanks very much for calling!
Glad to hear it's stopped detonating, and from our discussions, it sounds like it just took a little bit for the premium gas to start getting into the motor, with having about 1/8th of a tank of regular in it when you filled up with premium. This happens sometimes, where people will have some regualr in the tank when they fill up with premium, sometimes timing just doesn't work out perfectly, such is life.
Most people don't get any detonation like you did at first, however. I think you may have a knock sensor system that has perhaps a bit less total effective range to it, and we've seen some variances there as well in these vehicles. The main thing is it's not detonating now, that's what matters.
Just let us know if you have any trouble, and thanks so much for calling us so quickly after our responses here.
Hope you got some rest,
