Post Mike, Its Time For Me To Get A Chip

Well, I have been reading about the chip for a long time, and I decided it is about time for me to get it. I finally put my Flowmaster 40 on(si/so), as well as a K&N Fipk that I am installing today. I have one question on the K&N, and that is if I need to put the cleaning stuff on it or anything on it when I first install it, or whether it comes pre-coated. I had one person tell me it is pre coated and another tell me that it isn't and I need to coat it, so I want to make sure before I go testing it out.

I am interested in getting a flip chip for my 2000 5.4l F150, and wondering how much it would cost. I would like it to be programmed for the use of both 87 and 93.

Also if I am running it on the 87, will I still get the nice shifting and just limited power performance or will the shifting not be improved?

Thanks Mike

Cool

On the FIPK; it's precoated, that's why it's reddish. Good Luck!!

Yes, when you "flip it" to run 87 octane, you'll still get the shift improvements.

I'm sure Mike will fill in the blanks...

Hi Bullsback,

Sounds like you've been doing your homework, as with the Superchip you will have completed all of the top 3 best bang-for-the-buck mods on your F-150, excellent!

The K&N filter will come pre-oiled, so you won't have to oil it until the first time you clean it, and that is at 30K-50K mile intervals, that won't be for quite a while. When you do, you'll want to be careful not to over-oil it. After cleaning, the filter gauze material will be much closer to white in color, you won't see any of the reddish color that you do right now as that is actually the dye in the oil, to let you know where the oil is present. So as you re-oil, any area that is already colored red, don't go back over with oil, pretty simple, and that's all in the directions of the recharger, or cleaning kit.

With regards to exact pricing on the various Superchips, please do us a favor if you don't mind & contact us via email or phone for that, our contact info is just below, as the Webmaster here has a policy (which works well) of not discussing exact pricing issues, etc. between vendor & customer, so as to keep these message boards free of what is considered blatant commercial content. Please just give us a quick shout privately, and we'll be happy to get you those details, & thanks very much for your understanding.

When we do the 2-program Superchip Flip Chip with a program combo of regular & premium, what we do is make both progrtams virtually identical, the only difference is that in Position 1, the engine is tuned for 87 octane, and in Position 2, it's tuned for premium. Both programs will have all our normal mods to improve transmission shift characteristics in the automatics, removal of top speed limiters, removal of transitional spark retards, upshift & downshift delays, etc., so the vehicle will run & feel better and more responsive all the time, no matter which fuel you're running on. Just be aware that when you're running it on regular, the power gain is going to be no more than a handful of horsepower at best, the range is 2-5 hp on the V-8's on the regular gas program. The program in Position 2 of the Flip Chip will be the exact same performance program that everyone normally gets in the single-program Superchip, and that is where the engine will get it's largest power gain.

Talk to you soon,
