Chips & Tuners?
Superchips 9100 programmer, it has three seperate tunes to chose from, is downloaded into your computor and you can remove it or switch programs in 6-10 minutes. It also firms up shifts in an auto if that is what you have. I have had mine maybe 3 months or so, ran it about 100 miles on the 87 oct. performance program which gave a nice noticeable difference in power and performance. Been through about about 5 tanks of 93 oct. on the max. performance program and that is a real kick in the butt, throttle response is greatily improved and love it. A couple of weeks ago I handed a coworker his butt that had a 1999 Ram 318 w/ duals, pulled on him so hard that I still can't believe it myself. That is w/ a V6 supercab 2000 model w/ auto. I also have electric fans, underdrive pulley, intake, and magnaflow replacement muffler w/ stock pipes. If you get this you will not have any doubt that you picked up HP. P.S. Mike Troyer is the man on these things check his web site and give him a call.

Hi 68tang,
The 4.2 V6 has plenty of performance potential - there is certainly significant room for improvement in their stock tuning. We do a *lot* of different mods on the 4.2 V6's, and have some of them making over 400 Hp on the stock block, heads, cam, pistons, rods & crank!
In terms of what is the single best bang-for-the-buck performance enhancement for your 4.2 V6 F-150, that would be to have us provide you with one of our custom tuning setups. We can do that in everything from single & multi-program chips to the multi-tune custom Micro Tuner - which is what most people go with.
Any 4.2 V6 F-150 that is well-maintained will pick up a minimum of 16-20 HP from our tuning, and many of them pick up even more, as a lot of the 4.2 V6 F-150's can't even go open loop in stock trim. You will usually knock at least a half second off your 1/4 mile times just from our tuning alone - some of these trucks drop a full second off those 1/4 mile times - that's a *lot* of improvement for a very small cost.
Give us a call at our number listed below when you get a chance, and we'll be happy to go over this with you in proper detail, let you know just exactly what can be done, how much performance improvement you'll get with your particular truck, what it will cost, etc., etc. If you have your truck's "computer code" handy when you call us, we can go over your individual vehicle's factory program in detail with you, & let you know what it's specific problems are, how we fix them & just how much of an improvement you'll see in your particular 4.2 V6 F-150. The computer code will be 4 digits, 3 letters followed by 1 number - and it will be on a small sticker in the passenger-side door frame. Open the front door on the passenger side, and then look in the door frame, in the general area of the door hinges - there you should find the code sticker with 3 letters & 1 number on it.
Also, please feel free to drop by our web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com - click on "Shop" once the home page loads, and then you'll see all the individual sections, as well as our Performance Packages section. There's plenty of detailed info to read there to give you a good idea of what you can do to that 4.2 V6 to help that F-150's performance - and we advise starting with custom tuning, simply because that is the single best bang-for-the-buck.
By the way - nice to see another F-150 owner from Hawaii dropping by here!
Best of luck whatever you decide,
