9100 vs 1715: What is exact HP gain on '03 4.6L??

I already have tried the 1715 tuner and enjoy the firmer shifts and increase power when running 93 octane in Performance mode. In order to justify the increased cost of "trading up" to the 9100, I would like to know if it is possible to quantify actual HP gain for my specific truck between these 2 tuners.

Other people in the same situation might also benefit from any specifics that M. Troyer or others could please provide.

Below is my truck, which is probably not unlike many others out there:

'03 F150 S'crew, 4.6L V8 2WD Auto
Computer Code: CFS3
Iceman Intake with AFE filter
Muffler-back replaced with 3" SI/SO Magnaflow and 3" mandrel-bent exhaust pipe
87, 89, or 93 octane available in my area (no 91 anywhere)

Thanks for any info.

Hi smprince1,

On that CFS3 code vehicle, with our custom tuning it will be a significant difference in terms of the power gains comparing the 1715 Micro Tuner to our custom tuning - this is because that CFS3 has a whopping huge 12 second DELAY to go open loop, and that is only addressable via our custom tuning.

What that means is, once you got to full-throttle, it's 12 seconds after *that* before you will actually get 100% full power, either on the stock tuning or with the 1715. We knock that out completely in our custom tuning, so that there is *no* delay to go open loop - as well as optimizing numerous other additional areas that further improve performance over what the 1715 can do.

There will be some areas in the power curve where you get another 20 HP at the wheels with our custom tuning over what the 1715 Micro Tuner will do - now the actual increase in absolute *peak* Hp at redline will be roughly 10-12 HP (that's at 5000 rpm we're taking), and may be even more, and in most areas below redline rpms it will be significantly more over the 1715. I'd say you're going to see another half-second (or more) off the 1/4 mile times with our custom tuning compared to what times you'll run with the 1715 - that truck most likely will see a full second or more off the 1/4 mile times with our custom tuning compared to the stock factory tune.

Any way you cut it, the bottom line is for that CFS3 code vehicle our custom tuning will *more* than be worth the cost to upgrade.

Thanks for your input!

Thanks to all for your replies above.

It is always reassuring to hear positive comments from other actual users of a product before committing to making a purchase yourself. Thanks for the "qualitative" responses.

Thanks Mr. Troyer for the "quantitative" response that you provided. I was surprised to read that your custom tuning can provide an additional 20 HP compared to the 1715 at certain below redline RPMs. Adding this 20HP on top of the gains that the 1715 already achieved compared to stock should make the S'crew a lot more fun to drive. I am not specifically concerned with 1/4 mile times, but I can understand this is a good barometer to translate into acceleration capability.

I also like the capability to tune the 9100 for MPG gains at 87 octane, while the 1715 seems to only give improved shifting performance when running low octane fuel with no engine performance or MPG gain.

Looks like I have to start saving my pennies and getting the 1715 ready for eBay.

Well, based on the positive responses provided by other members and Mike Troyer, I have taken the plunge to replace the 1715 with the 9100 on my 4.6L V8. I found someone selling a used 9100 with the email kit, and then ordered the 3 program custom tuning form Troyer.

For the 3 tunes, I ordered from Troyer:

87 Oct Performance
93 Oct Tow
93 Oct Performance

After I receive the new programs from Troyer via email, I will share my experiences/impressions with other forum members. This should give a good comparison of the "seat of the pants" impressions of the 1715 vs 9100, as well as the email method of loading programs.

Thanks to all for your input. Hopefully I can give back to the forum in a few weeks by sharing my experience with others in the same situation of considering the 9100 vs 1715.

I wonder how the SCT-9100 will work with my 98 FOU1 equipped F-150? Seems like an interesting investment.

Hi Pittsburgh,

Our custom tuning in the 9100 will work the same in your 1998 truck as it does for any other late-model F-150 - all the info you could ever want about that has been posted here on the boards, many, many times, and is available for reading.

Use the Search feature to retrieve & read posts on any topic - the icon to access it is in the upper right portion of your screen here, & that is your key to instantly unlocking all the wealth of info that is here!

If you want to go over any specifics for your truck, just give us ac all at our number listed below & we'll be happy to.

Good luck with your truck!
