Do I need a shift kit or just reprogram my Superchip.
Here is my problem I think.
On several occasions now when I have put my foot into it from a start. It launches just fine raps out just fine. Then when I get to about 5.5 KRPM (shift point between 1&2) My rev limiter kicks in before my shift can complete its transfer between 1 and 2.
1) Hits about 5.5 K
2) Transmission starts to shift.
3) Engine keeps wanting to go past rev limiter
4) Rev limiter it keeping it around 55. K
5) Transmission finally makes it transition between 1&2
Does any one else have this problem?
Is it a problem?
Can the superchip be re-programmed for quicker shifts or do I need to use a shift kit?
Seems to me that this time while I am limiting my power I would rather be launching.

Hi LaserNAV,
That shouldn't be happening, so you need to give us a call.
Sometimes we'll find Ford automatics that will have a too small orifice size in the PCS (pressure control solenoid), and that can cause a delayed upshfit to occur after the ECU has already sent it's signal to the shift solenoids.
This type of symptom, where you basically bounce off of the rev limiter during a full-thropttle upshift, usually only happens when you install 4.10 gears, shorter tires, a supercharger, etc., some type of mod that either increases the engine's power enough to make it gain rpms much more rapidly, or a mod that effectively raises the numerical gear ratio so that the engine gains rpms quicker than stock, and that requires an adjustment to be made to increase the amount of "headroom" between the WOT upshift point and the actual rev limiter. This is a easy adjustment to make.
A shift kit will cure the issue of a too-small orifice size in the PCS of course, but you shouldn't have to do that (unless you really want to), we should just adjust the program for you, from what you've mentioned here, so we should talk over the phone about this to determine exactly what changes to make. So if you don't mind, please just give us a call at your convenience, and we'll be happy to go over this with you, and do any adjustments that may be needed.
