Question question for Mike T.

I just purchased a used chip off the classified ads. My question is if the computer(ZPJ2) of the original owner of the chip had the jumper misconfiguration problem, is it likely that my computer will have the same problem? In other words do all the computers that bear a known "problem" code have the jumper problem. (Assuming all computers with code ZJP2 were made by the same manufacturer at about the same time.)
Am I making sense here?

Thanks

Hobbit

Hi Hobbit,

The problem is completely random, so you may or may not be affected. Meaning, not all ZJP2's are affected, just some of them. This jumper misconfiguration cannot be predicted by the code, due to it's random nature, so we keep a list of all codes that have ever been affected, so we can let people know.

You can check your computer in advance, by removing it from the vehicle and taking the cover off, and then compare the physical appearance of your circuit board to the pictures of all the different board designs at this URL at the manufacturer's web site: www.superchips.com/jumper.htm

Once you do that, you can identify where the jumpers are on your particular board, so you can then see if they're open or closed. The jumper will look like 2 small dots of solder, separated by about 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch if it's open. What you do is simply drop a dot of solder to close the gap between them, and that closes the jumper to complete the circuit. If you have experience in soldering, this is a very simple task. If you don't have experience doing soldering, then you can take it to just about any CB Radio shop, or TV/VCR repair shop, etc., as those types of places usually have someone on staff who can do this for you very easily, and correct this factory error.

Good luck!

Thanks Mike,
I'll check for the jumper config when I pull the computer to install the chip. I have had soldering experience so I'm confident that if I have a misconfigured computer I can get it fixed easily. Really looking forward to installing the chip and glad I could get a deal on the F150online classifieds.
Thanks again Mike and Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Hi Hobbit,

Sure, you're very welcome, I'm glad you were able to get a deal on a used one, they're a great bargain when the code matches.

Since you have soldering experience, one thing to keep in mind, and of course you'll no doubt see this right away should you need to close the jumper(s), and it can be either 1 or 2 jumpers, is that some of them are thin, so you'll want to watch how much heat you use on it. It's simple for anyone with experience.

Merry Christmas!
