(FIPK) Question for Mike
Mike,
I know this isn't really your bag but I wanted to get your input. Roger faxed me the install intructions for the Airaid FIPK. The first thing I noticed was the comment in the first section, "Sold for "off road" use only. Not legal for sale or use on polution controlled motor vehicles."
Surprised me! That was the first time I had seen that. Do you have any input? I've had warranty concerns all along but didn't consider that they were not even legal. My Expedition is barely a year old so I'm not ready to start cutting it up making illegal mods. (ok, so "cutting it up is a little strong)
Anyone else have any input or experiences with this?

Hi Family Ride,
It would only concern me if I were living in California, possibly, otherwise I don't worry about it, because there is no negative effect on what comes out of the tailpipe. We have to pass State inspection here in Virginia too, and it's never been a problem.
Some California customers will go with K&N's FIPK kit just because K&N did certify for emissions in California, which automatically makes it legal for use on the street in all 50 states.
The Airaid brand never has apparently bothered to get the CARB certification (though at one time there was talk to that effect that they were going to or that CARB cert. was pending, etc.), but in all honesty tht doesn't give me any cause for concern, because we *know* what they do to emissions. Nothing.
To me, it's only an issue with certain California imspection stations, where every once in awhile you'll have a real "eager-beaver" for an inspector doing the visual check.
If this causes you concern, then just use the K&N brand KIPK kit, as they cost the same and provide virtually identical power gains. Me personally, I would use the Airaid and be done with it, but that's me.
Good luck!
