Question 92 octane

Hi Mike,

I'm seriously thinking about getting a superchip for Christmas, but I have a concern. Here in So. California premium gas is only 92 octane and I wonder if that's high enough for the superchip or I definitely need to use 93. If so, is it possible to reprogram for 92?
Thanks.

Thumbs up

I'm using 92 octane Amoco and it's working *great* for me. That's the best I can find anywhere nearby.

When I put the 92 octane in for the first tankful after installing the chip, it mixed with several gallons of 89 octane left over from the prior tank, making the total octane effectively about 91. It still worked GREAT!

Merry Christmas New 5.4. GET IT, you won't be sorry.

Hi new 5.4,

I think I hear Santa scribbling something on his list.... just kidding, but it is a good time of year to be on Santa's good side.

That's a very common question, and you should be just fine with your 92 octane, California & other customers running Superchips use anywhere from 91-94 octane, depending on what they can get in their altitude & area. A good quality 92 octane will be fine.

You hear a lot of talk about people using 93 simply because in many areas, their pump premium is 93 instead of 92 octane, that's pretty common here in the East.
