Thumbs up Jumping on the superchip bandwagon!

Had a superchip installed professionally yesterday and am quite impressed! Prior to that, on my 2001 supercrew 5.4, I had the Ravin Z-55 exhaust and WMS Velocity tube installed. I first impression was that it was not that noticable until the more I drove and "got on it" alittle did I notice the difference. I am very pleased with with the superchip and would highly recommend to others.

Question

hey there!
just had a question about the chip because I'm about to make a purchase myself..
When you do "get on it" do the shift points feel like a "kick" or just a firm shift?

I'm a little worried about the possibilities of trans damage because I decided NOT to go with the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty from the dealership.. it was pricey and I could'nt justify paying that kinda money for something that may cost less to fix in the future.. plus I bought it used with 38k on it

anyway.. Mike T if your'e reading or anyone else I'm curios about the responses from chip owners with 30k-40k on thier trucks AFTER chipping.. are there any known trans problems that may develop in the fututre?

thanks fellas!

There is no "jerk" at all when it shifts so, I would say they are firm but nothing out of the ordinary. I too saw some posts on tranny shifting and was alittle leery. Again, I am very happy with it and the other mods. that were done.

I still can't justify paying that extra $14/tank, everytime I fill up with premium over low grade. It calculates out to be just over $500/year extra for fuel! I know the increased performance it produces is great, and I sure most feel they would sacrifice the extra cost for the extra power. Because there's such a wide spread of available aftermarket parts out there willing to increase performance and fuel economy without sacrificing the extra cost at the pumps, I'm willing to hold off on the chip "temporarily" until I find it justifiable.

I'd also like to mention that most of you do have the extra bolt-ons, that I'm looking into purchasing for my truck, so I can see how by purchasing the Superchip would then compliment the extra bolt-ons, and give you a complete performance package.

fordification,
I pay .20 more for premium and only .10 more if I stop at a Sams club station. Thats only $2.50 to $5/tank more. Do you have to pay .55 more for premium in Canada?

wow! you pay an extra $14 a tank? Its only 20 cents more out here. Thats only about $4.00 more then usual. If I had to pay that much I probably would have not got the Chip. Although I love everything about the Chip that is a lot to pay for gas.

Thumbs up

Here in Iowa, Ethanol (89 octane) and Regular (87 octane) normally are the same price because Ethanol isn't as heavily taxed in order to encourage its use. Anyway, Premium (91 or 92 octane) generally runs 10 cents more a gallon in almost all the stations around me. Once in a while, I see 15 cents more, but that is the exception.

It's not going to cost all that much more to enjoy a little more performance and kick. After what one pays for the truck in the first place, what the heck!

fordification...I live in the same city as you and it only costs me an extra 7 or 8 dollars to fill up the Supercrew with high test fuel. There is no way it would cost you an additional $14 to fill up with super unleaded....at 10 cents more a liter for super unleaded you do the math.....

86L tank X .10/Litre = $8.60 "MAX"

Shows how often I fill with premium! Sorry, an extra $8.60/tank, which would be just over $300/year, or $1500 for 5 years! I think I'll just stick to running premium fuel in my race truck, rather then my daily driver.

That's also estimated out for 18,000km/year of driving, which is a little more then what I drive (after 2 years, 33000km on the OD), but that should be double for most!

Hi patrickjp,

You have nothing to worry about with the Superchip and your automatic transmission, it is not going to cause any damage, or any shortening of it's service life. In fact, it's just the opposite, your friction materials (bands & clutches) inside the transmission will last *longer* with the Superchip due to the reduction in slippage.

We have been doing this for a long time, and have customers with automatic transmission who have been using the Superchip for 100,000 miles, 150,000 miles, and in the case of some of the Powerstroke diesels, 250,000 miles and more. You will not reduce the service life of your powertrain with the Superchip.

If you'd like to go over that or any other questions you may have in more detail, please feel free to give us a call, we're happy to help.

Hi Fordification,

If your numbers were close to accurate, I'd be paying $1000 or more a year to use it!

Instead, as we know from the results posted here many times, any additional fuel costs are very small, and not exceeding $150-$200 per year driving 20,000 miles per year here in America (unless it's all very heavy towing, or driving it like a race car), which is well over 32,000 kilometers. Between the correct cost numbers, and the gas mileage gains that people right there in your area are getting, the actual increase in fuel costs are a fraction of what you've posted, my friend.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but here's my calculation. 80L/tank last around 425km (which is about 12.6mpg, I'm getting about 400km/tank right now). For me, I'm averageing 16,000km/year, having purchased my vehicle November 19 of 1998, that's fairly accurate. A full year of driving would use 3011.76L. At a difference of $0.10/L from regular to premium, the cost per year is just over $300. At a difference of $0.08/L, it's about $240. $1200 or $1500 for every 5 years just for running premium. Not to mention the cost of fuel alone is outragious. Am I out in left field here, or does anybody see where I'm coming from?
