Chip or Valve Body
Chip or Valve Body
OK All, need some help here! I don't know if I should get the valve body first or the chip? The thought process tells me to go with Greg's valve body first then either a chip or the 9100. Ant thoughts on this! Mike your more than welcome to jump in on this because I'll be getting both from you anyway. Of course spread out over a couple of months cause us Navy guy's don;t make any money

Since no one else has said anything I will throw in my 2 cents. Personally I would get the chip first because it reprograms the engine AND tranny-where the vb only helps the tranny. If you do the chip first i would think you would have to go down on the shift points with the tuner once you get the vb-otherwise the shifts would be to hard and jerky. Im not sure if thats how it is-thats just what I would think.
Anyway-thats just how I would do it-although I plan on doing a FTVB and programmer and I will probably end up doing the Vb first-but only because the price of the programmer is scaring me away and stalling me on buying one
How about we do a group purchase on MicroTuners??

Thanks Bart...
I was thinking of going with Greg's valve body and then the chip. But the more I think about it (and the more beer I drink
) I'll get the 9100 vice a chip (no reburn) and then do the tranny. I thought of going with a SCT6600 for the different tunes, because I tow a bass boat alot that way I could just flip it. But I could run the Perf. tune and re-program it when I need to tow. I think that makes sense... LOL. One way or the other Mike's gonna get some money from me.

01RedS'Crew,
if you get the 9100 first, have mike set the shift soft or you could be sending it back for a reburn. FTVB is a great mod. I pull a bass boat and have a shift kit installed, had to have the 9100 reburned because it made the shift to firm while towing. mike set it lower and works great now. use a little firmer set points for the performance tune. if you have any questions about it, seeing that we are both in the navy and in VA BEACH call me during the day 836-1053. I have a 1715 that I'd be willing to let you try if you want-it will prove that they are not a waste of money and you don't have to justify sending the cash. THIS mod is worth every penny and mike's service is absolutly the greatest. the 9100 is even better. you may decide after the test run you don't want the FTVB and just use a tuner. Either way I'll be glag to help you out if you need it. In a bass club, which one?

Hi 01,
I agree, do the tuning first - most people find that the transmission shifting is so improved that they usually don't go on to do the FTVB too.
This also depends on just how hard you want the tranny to shift - for example, if you want tire-chirping WOT 1-2 upshifts, then I DO recommend doing both the FTVB *and* our custom tuning - the FTVB mechanically modifies the tranny to make it physically capable of flowing more fluid volume in the same amount of time, whereas the tuning allows us to control everything *else* regarding shift performance, from shift points to firmness levels, downshifts, TQ lock/unlock characteristics, etc. The combination of the two is an *excellent* configuration.
One small point - I do not agree that there is a good chance of having to have us soften up the shifting later on if you do our tuning now and then do FTVB later on. In the case of "watsonr" (Randy, the gentleman who kindly commented on that) he needed to have us bring the shift firmness levels down a bit for his 1996 5.0 automatic F-150 - but in his case he doesn't have the FTVB, he's using a B&M shift kit installed at a high level. That gives a much firmer shift than what the FTVB does - he also has a very rare PCM code, YAZ3, one that to the best of my knowledge, only we are able to do custom tuning in properly (and normally I'd never remember that much detail about someone's configuration, but in this case I do happen to recall that B&M shift kit as they're used pretty rarely among our customers & we've talked to Randy numerous times, etc. - he's a great guy.
)
If the need arises, we can do that simply by emailing you the files if you opt for the email update kit for the 9100. The email update software is now working well for everyone, whereas when it first came out a couple months ago and the next version release after that, there were a few people that had problems & had to send in the tuner for us to reflash it with the tuning changes here. That's what happened in Randy's case, so he's trying to help think ahead for everyone in mentioning that, which was very nice of him to do.
With the new email update software we have now, that is a thing of the past, and I *highly* recommend that everyone going with a 9100 from us also opt for the email update kit - it costs less if it's ordered at the same time as the 9100 is, and nothing beats that kind of convenience. It doesn't make us any more profit when we supply that email update kit with the 9100, it's a simple matter of the vastly increased convenience to the customer - just FYI.

Hey Mike!
Yeah me and Randy talked today and he said almost the same thing you did "wprd for word". He said you like paying with his truck since the code is so unique too!! Since we aonly live a couple of miles apart we are talking about loading his 1715 in mine until I make my order next month and by the way, he talked me out of the chip and 1715! Guess I'll go with the 9100 with addition cablr for e-mail capability. Randy's another Chief and I know he won't steer a brother wrong. Thanks guy's... Pat
Randy, give me a call tomarrow so we can get together!

Hi Pat,
Absolutely right, Randy's YAZ3 code is *very* rare. He's got a great 1996 truck that's running well - he's put a lot of work into getting is just like he wants it, and all that effort has turned out nicely. Glad you guys got a chance to talk - Randy has good experience on his truck, and with flashing the PCM too, so he definitely knows the score.

chip or valve body
i know we beat this horse dead but i just need to know something my 02 5.4 screw is running good i think about as good as the new 5.4 3 valve with the mods i have put on but it seems like she just doesnt shift hard enough or fast enough for me i know the chip will help with the added hp and shift points but would she be faster if i just did valve body now and do 9100 later thanks 72 mustang
do both!!!
Mine has the tuner and the shift kit and it will rock your world on the shift.
if ya like it HARD and FAST, get both!
01RedS'Crew took a ride with me and he'll tell ya the same thing I'm sure.
