Troyer 9100 Wow!
Just a quick note to say thank you to Mike Troyer for making me fall in love all over again with my Expedition. I received and installed my 9100 today shortly after reading all of the enclosed paperwork.
Even for someone like me, with no real mechanical knowledge, the install was as easy as Anita and Mike told me it would be. The most difficult part for me was openning the fuse box and pulling the fuel pump fuse. All told, a 15 minute process.
As I still had about a 1/2 of a tank of 89 octane left, I installed the "89 Octane Performance/Tow" custom tune program. This evening I tested it. Wow!
The difference in performance was beyond what I expected. Acceleration (seat of the pants) from both a standing start and at mid-range and freeway speeds seems dramatically improved. Transmission shifts are crisp and throttle induced downshifts are impressive. The car felt great!
What's amazing is that this is only the 89 Octane tune. I can't imagine what it's going to be like once I fill-up with 91 Octane and install the "Max Performance/No-Tow" custom program!
Thank you to Mike Troyer, Anita Troyer and all of you on F150 Online who recommended them.

Sounds good.
How does the tranny shift v/s stock? Does it shift a lot harder now? I have an 02 Lightning and I was worried that the shifts might be to firm for my tastes. My tranny shifts firm in stock form.
Did you have Troyer write you a stock program just in case you want to go back to it for warranty service? Or does the 9100 save your stock program?

To "Peddler": That's what I'm afraid of! One day at a time!
To "Rio": The shifts are not "hard", they're just there! I can now feel a definite upshift or downshift. It just feels right, whereas before the car would upshift too soon and I had to to use the electronic switch to lockout overdrive on steeper grades. Last night I took it up the "Sepulveda Pass" on the 405 Freeway (Los Angeles). It's a steep grade and the Expy had no problem accelerating up from 65 in overdrive. I actually felt that I had control of the transmission with the throttle and with a moderate push on the gas (not even W.O.T.) it downshifted into 3rd and accelerated so nicely, going uphill! Several times I was surprised to see just how fast I was going (85 at one point).
My Expedition is certainly not a Lightning and Mike tuned my 9100 specifically for my PCM Code, my mods and my driving needs. The 9100 "saves" the factory tune so you can go back to the dealer for warranty work. It then has 3 "custom tunes" that Mike programs specifically for your vehicle and your driving needs. Call him at Troyer and he'll discuss it with you. Troyer's customer service is par none!

re
How much did your 9100 cost ya? if you can't say over this, please email me with info on where you purchased and how much it ran you at: jdanzl@stmarys-ca.edu
I was going to purchase the 1715, (still waiting on paychecks for payments, then left over i will use to buy the tuner), but, now after hearing about EVERYONE and i mean EVERYONE talking about how good the 9100 is, i am definately going to have to go with this tuner instead of the 1715.
Did you have to have it custom programmed before it was shipped out?
Thanks,
Jd

1miamifan,
Congrats on your new 9100 Tuner.
I too just ordered one from Anita\Mike from Troyer, I have since filled out and faxed all the data log forms back to them and now just waiting for a phone call from Mike to discuss some minor details before he programs my Tuner.
I know the 'steep little grade' your talking about on the 405, as I live in the San Fernando Valley (North Hollywood).

Is there a single program SCT chip that can be custom tuned and deliver the exact performance level and options as the 9100's High performance/no tow stage??
I ask because I would only use the performance mode on the 9100 so having 2 other programs would be nice, but not necassary for my needs..
All I want is the Highest performance custom tune stage from the 9100 in a single chip where I can get the exact results as the tuner. I know this means I have only one setting, with chip in, or stock with chip out, which is fine, but only as long as the performance and other changes are the exact same as they would be with the 9100.
it is also much cheaper this way which is nice, especially since I don't forsee myself using the other 2 programs from the sct 9100 tuner.
thanks!
edit*.. wow..
Mike already answered my question from the very first post! Well then, my question is, can this single program deliver the same performance as the 9100 ?

If you'd like to drop by our web site and read up on some details, the following 3 part#'s are the newer 4-bank style custom tune-capable products: the 5500 (single program custom chip), then the 6600 (4-program custom chip), and then the 9100 (3-program custom Micro Tuner. There are other devices on this same page, but those are the 3 part #'s that you can get our custom tuning in, which gets you the most power & performance gain as well as the most flexibility - here's the link: http://www.troyerperformance.com/cg...rchips%3BFoMoCo

1miamifan...thanks for the info. My tranny shifts great it just seems to up shift really soon. This is ok for gas mileage but I didn't expect it to get good mileage anyway.
It sounds like you have a sweet Expedition. I'll bet the maggy sounds good on it.

To PhatNav: I agree with Jaguar. Call Troyer! The 9100 is custom tuned for your vehicle and your driving needs. For me it seemed a better value then the 1715.
To MrTude: Thanks, neighbor!
I think you'll be very happy with your 9100. What vehicle are you putting it in? Any other "mods"?
To RioJ: You're welcome and thanks for the compliment on my Expy. It now has some "go" along with the "show"! The Magnaflow does sound really nice, kind of like your Lightning. The 9100 can be tuned according to your driving needs. Mike Troyer actually drives a Lightning! Definitely give him a call to discuss what improvements you'd like to make on yours. My best friends husband has an '03 Lightning with only a suspension "mod" and I've driven it several times. I love it, even stock, but performance mods are ofcourse in its future! The 9100 is probably the place to start.

1MiamiFan,
Yes, I am really looking forward to the 9100 tuner.
I drive a 2003 XLT Supercrew with a 6" RCD suspension lift & 33" BFG's.
Some of my mods include the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust, an Airforce One intake, Precision 4.56 gears, and a Gatorback serpentine belt.
You can see some pix of her at the link below.

Hi MrTude:
Looked at your gallery. . .really classy truck! Tastefully done. Did you do all the mods seperately or was it "Galpinized" with some of the customizing before you bought it? Galpin always seems to create some beautiful tricked out vehicles. I was going to get a 4.10 gear but after reading the forums and speaking with Mike I decided to wait and do the 9100 first. My tires are only 31.5 in. diameter, though. If I decide to do it in the future, or any other mods, Troyer can reprogram our 9100's for a small charge. In case I do go "Mod-crazy", where did you get your 4.56 installed and about how much did you pay? Thanks!

1MiamiFan, thanks for the comment on my truck.
The truck was purchased at Galpin but ORU (Off Road Unlimited) in Burbank did the suspension lift, wheels\tires, and gears.
The Precsion 4.56 ring\pinion was $330 and the 'master installation kit' was $230, everything including labor was $740 out the door.
A little pricey but I have been quite happy with the gears, never once heard a whine from the rear-end.
ORU is a great shop and and thier service is 2nd to none.
My Magnaflow cat-back exhaust was installed by my Uncle, who works at a muffler shop and the Airforce One a friend & I installed.
