Am I Aftermarket?
Am I Aftermarket?
I bought my '02 5.4 used and am wondering if I have a chip. I've been running regular unleaded since I got it, dunno how that affects things if you're programming's been altered. Anyway, how can I tell?

One way to tell if your truck has Superchips Tuning would be if it runs over 100 mph. Most stock F-150s have a top speed limiter set below 100.
The pcm (computer) is located above where a passenger's feet would be in your truck. If you lay on the floor and look up against the outside sheet metal of the truck and against the firewall, you will see a metal box standing on end (dimensions about 10x6x2). If all you see is that plain box, then truck has no 'chip'. If you see a thin module, usually blue or red plugged into the end of the metal pcm box, then you have a 'chip'.
.......................but you could have a microtuner 'chip', which means tuning was uploaded into truck through the obd II port. Then there would be no 'chip' plugged into the the actual pcm box. I would expect this not to be the case, as when the microtuner uploads the program to your truck, it becomes 'locked'. Meaning it can only be used to tune one truck at a time. If you did not receive a microtuner when you bought your truck, you very likely don't have microtuner tuning.
Most Superchips tuning requires premium fuel, so if you were running regular 87 and not getting a horrible running truck, then you likely do not have a 'chip'.
