Smile Report on my Superchip install

Figured I would just post some new feedback on my chip install. Put in Monday Last week. Re-programmed, from my Ranger. WOW, a heck of a difference in this truck. But most of you know that. But as too MPG. I just finished 400 mile trip to/from Duluth from South MN. Pushing a 10-25 MPH Head wind doing 67 resulted in 15.1 MPG (avg is 15.9, worst 12.8, best 17.7) To put this in perspective, my Ranger would drop 2-3MPG in a head wind. On the way back 16.9 MPG pushing a diagonal head wind of 10-25 MPH.
So Improvment, YES considering. But the unfortunate thing is that I won't be able to get a GOOD reading of improvment till next year, as Cold temps and strong winds do not make for the same condiditons on the same drive.
Oh well, Love how it drives now.

Stats,
97 f-250ld 4x4 ext cab, 5.4l 3.73 gear.

Hi thomasjs,

Good post!

It can be a bit difficult to get directly comparable conditions sometimes. We've had numerous reports back from those who make the same "trips" time after time, to get the before & after numbers, and they've almost always been positive results in direct back-to-back comparisons, even though it's just a by-product of the performance tuning.

Hopefully when you get a chance to do a direct comparison, that will show for you as well.

I'm glad you're enjoying the Superchip now that it's been reprogrammed from your Ranger to your new truck, have fun!

Hello Benny,
I live in Faribault MN, and Commute to Eden Prairie MN daily,(110 miles round trip) of course in this truck. I am sure you will be happy with these mods, I was. Except I went a little cheap on the intake, a K&N and used the airbox mod off this site to give an open element. Not sure if you have or not, but exhaust changes match perfect with the intake.
Good luck

Unhappy

Hi guys, I lost phone service for four days so was unable to post back. Thomasjs what mods do you have for the exhuast?
While talking with Mike on the phone (before it got hit by lightning) he explained about the ups and downs of straight pipes vs the aftermarket ones. Most everyone around here goes with the straight pipes, they are a little to load for my taste. I am going to purchace an exhuast after I get some more OT in at work.
My chip came Thursday afternoon, but no time to install yet.I hope to see my AirRaid system Tuesday, I plan on installing that first to feel any gains just with it alone.
Well got to go, have to be in the stand by 6AM. Happy racing, Benny

Hi Benny,

Welcome back! 4 days without phones must have driven you nuts!

I think you'll feel a nice increase in performance with just the Airaid alone, they show solid 14 hp gains on the 5.4 motor.

I know you can't wait to surprise a certain Jeep.

Have fun,

Hello Benny,
For my exhaust this time, I just went with a Hi-Flow muffler(Iron Tuff). Went to my fav exhaust guy and told him what I wanted and up it went. I would have loved true-duals with 2 hi-flows but cost was an issue this time. I myself do a fair amount of towing and wouldn't want to give up my low end torque, just running straight could put this in jepordy for me. On My Ranger when I went to a single in dual out muffler and 2.5" pipes I lost some low-end, said I wouldn't do that again.
Take Care!
