Question chip questions

I have a question on the chips,I may possibly be buying a used chip that says was used for 6 months, should i go for it or should I buy new. I can buy it for 120 dollars, what should i do? Also I read that you should run out all your gas of reg. and start running prem. for awhile before installing the chip. If you can help me out I would appreciate it. Thanks, Jason

It may be worth a try. The only thing is make sure the program on the chip matches the computer code for your truck. It is recommended about cleaning out the cheap gas and running premium (a full tank or 2), since these chips use premium fuel curves for the added engine performance.
Good Luck.

Hi Jason,

Buying a used Superchip can be a great bargain as they rarely fail, BUT, please make sure that it exactly matches the computer code of *your* vehicle first, otherwise it won't work! Most Superchips can be reprogrammed to the new code, but that costs money too of course, and then you're better off buying new. But as long as the code matches yours, then it can be a great bargain.

To find your computer code, open your passenger door, and look in the front part of the door frame in the general area of the door hinges. There will be a sticker with 3 letters and 1 number on it, and that is your "computer code", as we refer to it.

The other thing to remember is that when you buy the Superchip used, there is no warranty with it, as the manufacturer's warranty is only to the original owner. With the low failure rate of Superchip modules, that usually isn't much of a concern, the main thing is that it matches your computer code, so you don't have to pay for it to be reprogrammed.

As far as when to switch oever to premium, what we recommend is to run the regular gas in the tank down at least until the fuel light comes on, at that point you still have anywhere from 3 to as much as 6 gallons still in the tank, so run it a bit lower if you can without taking the chance of running out. Then fill it up with premium, and install the Superchip. You do not have to run premium gas *before* the Superchip is installed, though it's always nice to have as much pure premium in the tank not being diluted by regular as possible, of course. But you do not have to run premium for awhile before installing the Superchip, just run it as low as you reasonably can on regular, and then fill up with premium, and install the Superchip.

Good luck!
