I remember contemplating between Diablo vs. Superchips for about 10 minutes until I spoke with Mike.
I still however, Know that many people wonder about the differences between the two. I am going to purchase a superchip, but I found this thread interesting because he so blatenly states that, "superchips isn't as agressive as Diablo".
Here is the thread where i read that: Here
Perhaps that MAY be true, but at the same time, I have heard that agressive chips, ie, Jet Chip, make the fuel burn too rich which feels good at first, until it starts causing problems and ruining the computers.
Mike, does Diablo tune more agressively?
oh and on a site note and not to sound redundant, but going with the 3 program tuner 1715, will the performance from the tuner in "performance mode" be the same performance gain as in the single program 1100 chip?

Hi Phat,
Please don't take this the wrong way, OK? This is exactly what I don't do, my friend - get involved in "who's more aggressive" discussions/arguments. Being "more aggressive" in the engine tuning is child's play for a tuner - providing maximum safe & sustainable performance is altogether a different matter, and requires a lot of R&D - we've specialized in the tuning of this platform longer than anyone else.
.
Those who actually want the best power and performance in these late-model Ford trucks & SUV's come to us for our *custom* tuning. I emphasize our custom tuning over any "standard" off-the-shelf tuning product, as there's a significant difference in the additional power & performance we get in our custom tuning. The results we get in our custom tuning are precisely why those who want the absolute best possible power and performance come to us for their tuning.
The "standard" 1715 Superchip Micro Tuner does a fine job for what it's intended to be capable of - delivering nice power & performance gains via multiple tunes that are safe for use in *any* stock to mildly modified late-model Ford gas engine truck or SUV, driven anywhere in all 50 states and Canada, driven any way, on virtually any grade of fuel. Any product having to fill *that* kind of universal role is by definition automatically limited in terms of just how "aggressive" it can be and still not cause detonation on any of those vehicles.
To answer your other question, the middle program in the 1715 - meaning Program #2, it's "tow-perf" tune which is designed for use on premium gas and is towing compatible - that program is the same program that you get when you order the standard single-bank single program (1100) Superchip. The 1715 also has a higher performance tune, Program 3, called the "Max Performance" tune - it's for premium gas and is *not* towing compatible.
However, if you care about getting the best possible power and performance, what you need to do is to have us do our *custom* tuning for your Navi in either our Part# 5500 (4-bank single program custom chip), our #6600 (4-bank 4-program custom chip) or our #9100 (the 3-program custom Micro Tuner). *That* is what will actually get you the absolute best results, and it's enough more to make it more than worth the small additional cost over any of the "standard" tuning products.

Ok i didn't come to argue, all i'm saying is that I thought superchips was more agressive and that it was interesting that this guy just stated diablo was more agressive and insinuated it was better.
To put it mildly, I could care less wether you think it is interesting or not.
Mike I found a great price on a micro tuner so i will keep you posted on that. Waiting for 2 pay checks of 80 hours worth of work.
Take Care Mike,
JD

I didn’t think the exchange about the Diablo chip had any substance to it.
End Thread.
By the way JD, have fun driving that souped up Gator after you chip it. It’s gona be fun, Enjoy.

Personally I want to go with a chip that is not too aggressive but still gives a decent power improvement. Thats why I've been so cautious when trying to decide on one for my Lightning.
For example lets say I happen to get a less then quality tank of gas, I don't want to blow it up or burn valves, etc.
I am strongly leaning towards the 1715 and Mike has been a great help, thanks.
BTW I know for my truck the diablo says you must us mobil or some other brand of gas (that we don't have in Canada, or in my area) that is 93+ octane, that makes me wonder about all chips as I can only get 91, but the superchip says 91-93 so hopefully that will be ok on 91.
