Thumbs up Hey..Mike T

The R9 is doing great. So, I though I would give you a plug on my website (it's in the sig). I couldn't resist putting in the Boomhauer wave about the sparkplugs just for laughs.

Thanks for all your help and speedy service.

Wink

Mike,

I'll make that change about the acetone. That's what I was told by somebody that had instructions from another chip maker. This was before your instructions came.

I always used alcohol for cleaning when I was a tech but I thought maybe they knew something about this application I didn't. I also need to mention the lip on the mounting bracket being a problem.

Cool

Mike,

How's that look to you. I made sure I put rubbing in front of alcohol. I didn't want Bubba using Jack Daniel's. LOL.

Hi Chuck,

That was very nice of you, thanks!

Glad to hear you're enjoying the R9 program, it's a real winner on these Lightnings.

I dropped by and just took a quick look at your pics & text for the Splitfire plugs and the Superchip installation, and I have 2 quick comments.....

1.) Thanks for the laughs! Boomhauer's .wav about the plugs is hilarious.

2.) I hate even mentioning this, because you've done such a nice job of these tips for the Superchip installation, so please forgive me. In the Superchip installation text you have there, you mention that acetone can be used to help clean the clear conformal coating from the contacts on the male edge connector. We do not advise the use of *any* kind of solvents, as acetone & others can attack & "melt" the plastic PCB (printed circuit board). Yes, certain solvents, used extremely carefully by those used to handling them, could potentially be used without problems, but the best thing is to not use *any* kind of solvent, and we warn against this in both the manufacturer's installation instructions and in our "tips sheets" that we send out with each Superchip. We do say that we use rubbing alcohol on Q-tips to clean up the connector before & after scraping the contacts, and that's fine to use as we describe, though it will not remove the conformal coating, rubbing alcohol won't "melt" that coating off like other solvents will. I understand your point perfectly well, that the acetone will help to dissolve that conformal coating, and *properly* done that can indeed work well. But as soon as people start doing that in numbers, there will always be somebody or a number of people who will "melt" or damage their board from using too much solvent, or not controlling where it goes, etc., you know how these things can go, so that's why I wanted to mention this, that's all.

I especially liked your pictures and your tips about using the pencil eraser to insure all the coating is off the contacts, that is an excellent technique as you have it pictured there, great advice.

Have fun, & good luck with your Lightning!

Yes, the rubbing alcohol looks much better than acetone.
