Question 2nd gear

I would like to know if any of you get 2nd gear rubber in your 4x4 4.6 or 5.4 liters, I read a thread in the engines message board about alot of people could'nt get rubber on take off. I know mine will burn them like crazy on take off but will not get 2nd gear, I would say that alot of the 2 wheel drives will get 2nd. Also is this a common thing with alot of trucks not being able to wheel spin?

HI K,

One thing that is very important in these F-150's is that there is so much potential weight difference, well over 3000 lbs. between the lightest V-6 short cab 4X2's, versus the 154" wheelbase 5.4 4X4's with the Offroad package, that some will, and some won't.

Almost none of these trucks will get rubber in second gear with the autoamtics, as the way they are programmed from the factory prevents this possibility, unless they are either reprogrammed like the Superchip does, or a shift kit is installed. And even then, only the lightest vehicles are going to do that, just to give you a rough idea.

These aren't Corvettes, they're 2-ton+ work trucks, as far as what they are designed to do, so you can't expect them to behave like a Trans Am automatic does, for example. When we reprogram them with the Superchip, unless the customer specifically requests a custom program with very firm shifting, we don't try to make them all chirp tires in second gear, as we maintain the original character of the vehicle. With the Superchip, usually the lighter 5.4's & 4.6's will chirp them, slightly.

I hope that helps to give you a little bit of insight on this, I know you want to hear directly from other vehicle owners, but I thought I'd drop a quick note just to lend a bit of perspective.....

Hi K.,

Yes, the Superchip is a flash module design, so it can always be updated for your vehicle.
