Question for superchips_distributor about chip upgrade
I have an original superchip flip chip for the 99 Lightning can it be upgraded to a new program and how much does that cost? How much more performance will that give me? Thanks Scott
Hi Scott!
If that Superchip came from us here at Performance, then the only cost to update it is simply the return shipping charges!
The new R9 program for the Lightning is pretty aggressive, it will add 42-44 horsepower to the stock Lightning, and of course we have made changes to some of the shift characteristics over time, which I think you'll enjoy very much.
One thing you'll notice in particular is increased power below 3000 rpm compared to your original Superchip Lightning program. This is an area in the Lightning where we previously didn't push like we knew we could have, simply because people were already having traction problems from the increase in power we did then. But we decided to go ahead and give it as much power as possible, and let the owners sort out their traction problems, as those are "good" problems to have.
The best thing to do is to just give us a call or shoot us an email with your customer info so we can look you up, and get you scheduled for this update! Oor contact info is just below for your convenience, so just give us a shout and we'll be happy to take care of this for you!

Hey Mike,
What is the difference in the program that Muscle Mustangs&Fast Fords ran on their project lightning that dyno tested at a gain of 14 h.p. and the "new R9 program that gives 42-44 h.p."?
This is quite a difference.
I dont own a Lightning I was just curious as to what the difference is.
Can one computer program give that much more h.p. than another?
Any new info on the speedo correction program for 99s yet?

Hi Jarrett,
I couldn't tell you what MM&FF ran, but I can tell you there has *never* been *any* Superchips program for the supercharged Lightning that has ever gained less than 30+ horsepower at the flywheel on an accurate dyno. That was able to be done right from the start when the Lightning first started shipping, just before the Ford World Challenge last year, where we first demonstrated & released the Superchip for the Lightning! So now that we're up to over 40 horsepower gains, which we've been doing for many months now as well, that is nothing new, we've always made good power gains on these Lightnings from day one. As time has gone by, we've learned how to make a little bit more power safely in the Lightning than our first programs 18 months ago did, but even the very first Superchips program done for the Lightning gained well over 30 horses.
I don't know what they tested, but we've had many of our Lightning customers who have had their Lightnings dyno'd with & without their Superchip, and not one of them has reported back with gains from the Superchip of less than 30 horsepower at the flywheel on the very *first* programs, and of course more in our later programs.
With the 42-44 hp peak gains being made right now, the rear wheel numbers are about 33-36 hp., just to give you an idea of both flywheel (which are what the SAE Net stock ratings are based on) and rear-wheel dyno numbers.
