Superchip and the Factory Theft system
A while back I tried to get a superchip. but my factory theft system wouldn't let me chip it, so I had to return it. Here is my question has anyone been able to superchip their truck with that darn blink theft light working? Also have Superchips found away to get around the factory theft? I would really like to know this a.s.a.p. I might even give Mike a call tomorrow to get the exact details

Just wondering what does the "theft" light have to do with anything? My 2000 blinks when the key is off as it is supposed too. I have no problems at all with my superchip(6 months and my foots still through the floor!!!). I still don't understand way you had it sent back???

Not sure about '99s, but for '00, the blinking Theft light in the dash is for the radio only. The anti-theft ignition system (PATS) doesn't have any visible indicators and seems to have no affect on the operation of a Superchip... at least not on either of my vehicles!
Headless may have another system installed???

Mike,
Thanks for all your help. esp. the webpage. Wow, that looks a little to complicated for me to do. Could there be any other reason, for that particular superchip I purchased not to work and cause my truck not to start and my theft like blink wildly?

MIKE, I just want to let you know that I am a victum of the "jumper box". I just want to say to anyone that can't get their chip to work take it to either mike or some kind of eletronics shop. I was very lucky in that there is a local chip vendor near where I live that got my chip to work. So if you have some kind of problem don't give up.

Actually..the blinking theft light is NOT for the radio in the 2000s. Pg. 84 of the owners manual, April 2000 printing says:
"Theft indicator
When the ignition is OFF, the theft indicator will flash briefly every two seconds to indicate the anti-theft system is protecting your vehicle."
On the next page, it outlines how to program a spare SecuriLock PATS key and it specifically mentions the THEFT light several times. I just programmed a spare PATS key using the procedure. If the theft light illuminates for 3 seconds after the new key is programmed then goes out, the key was programmed successfully.

Hi Headless,
Generally it's not a problem. Ford has had occasional problems with their PATS system, requiring replacement of the keys and the vehicle's computer.
Ford introduced the PATS system in the F-150 starting in 1999, and there are many 1999 & newer F-150's with Superchips and the PATS system. This is something we've had to deal with in a number of automakers, GM, BMW, Ford, etc., and it's usually not a problem.
To date here at Performance, we've had problems with only 2 F-150's with the PATS system possibly not allowing the Superchip to work, and both were 1999 4.2 V-6 models, both automatics. In both cases, we did not have access to the vehicle to be able to verify that it actually was a PATS problem, but that is what we're surmising to be the problem.
It doesn't sound to me like you had a PATS-related problem, from that flashing theft light during starting (it's always going to flash slowly when the truck is off, of course) it sounds more like you have one of what we call the "jumper boxes", where the manufacturer mistakenly left open a jumper or pair of jumpers that controls the communications state of the connector where the Superchip attaches on the back of the Ford computer. This is very easy to fix, by closing the jumper(s). Of course we don't have the vehicle here to know for *certain*, but this is what it sounds like to me from your description.
You might want to give us a call to go over this in a bit more detail, we'll be happy to, our number is below.

HI Headless,
No, I'm pretty certain you have the jumper mis-configuration problem from the factory, and the only way to take care of it is to close the jumper. That rapidly blinking theft light is the dead give-away on this, as that happens when the computer's external data path is engaged (by attaching the Superchip) but no communication is taking place.
For our customers here at Performance, we can arrange for that to be done for you, so please feel free to give us a call if you'd like to go over the details, and then you can give that information some thought and decide if that will work for you or not. Worst-case you may decide that won't work for you, but at least there is this option, so just give us a shout and we can go over that with you at your convenience.
