Thumbs up Superchip after 24 hours

I ordered my Superchip on Monday evening, online here, and it arrived Thursday. It took about 1.5 hours to install including removing the battery and battery tray so that I could get a good handle on the front computer connection. It took about 45 minutes to clean the pins where the Superchip connects on the computer. Not having a lot of confidence in my mechanical ability, I was elated to say the least when the engine started after installing the chip! A test drive soon followed including WOT tests up to about 80mph. I am impressed! It reminds me of about 7 years ago when I had 3:73 gears installed in a 93 5.0 Mustang. A lot more punch for sure, especially coming off the line, and when hitting the gas hard as when passing. I can tell I will need to be carefull on wet, slick roads!
Thanks Mike........

Thumbs up

I installed my Superchip yesterday, taking about the same amount of time! I used a very small screwdriver blade to clean the contacts, and mine started right up too! (97 Lariat S/C 5.4; 4x2; 3.55LS; K&N FIPK) On first drive, I was somewhat surprised at the firmness of the shifts, thinking they may almost be too hard, but today I am pleased. Also, it seemed to me that the indicated speed on my speedometer was faster than I was really going. I assume that the Superchip doesn't have anything effect on the speedometer, but it would be nice to hear for sure. Also, the truck seems much faster now because of the variation in shift points, and my mileage will no doubt go down into single digits for a month or so...But I love it!!! My truck (bright red over silver) is stock looking on the outside. I like the stealth effect when Z-71's start to disappear in my rear view mirror!!!

Hi GDLawyer,

No, the Superchip doesn't change your speedometer readout, unless we do a custom program to compensate for a gear change, etc.

We have the upshift firmness calibrated such that on light throttle, it still shifts smooth & fluiid, just a bit quicker. Then as you give it progressively more throttle, the shifts will get progressively firmer in response. In your lighter 2WD, it's a bit more noticeable than it is in the 4X4's.

Have fun!
