Superchip info
I was wondering about this superchip and the order process...i noticed the ordering option was pretty vague stating a chip for all f series...not a particular year...what are the requirements for year, type of engine
I have a F150 XLT ext cab with a 5.8 L engine
It looks to me like it came with a towing package fom the factory
has anyone "chipped" a vehicle similar to mine
also..is there a milage limit...too late to add a chip
thanks in advance

Hi Sax God,
If you had gone a little further in the ordering process, you would have seen that you do have to provide the year, the engine size, automatic or manual transmission, as well as the computer code for the vehicle. The very first thing you select is the basic product itself, which is for all F-150's and light-duty F-250's, and Super Duty 5.4 trucks. (The other 2 are for the V-10 gas engines and the Powerstroke diesel engeins in the Super Duty trucks) Then once you do that, the following screens take you thru all the rest of the detailed info on your individual vehicle. So you just didn't go far enough, that's all.
Each Superchip is programmed for the exact software revision that came in your vehicle from the factory, so the Superchip you get is made *specificially* for your individual vehicle!
There is no set "mileage limit" beyond which point you should not install a Superchip, it's a matter of whether or not the engine is basically healthy. Excellent question! If it's a 150,000 mile oil-burner, then it's not a good candidate, of course. But as long as the engine is basically healthy and is not using excessive amounts of oil, you'll be fine using the Superchip.
Since you have the 5.8 (351 ci) motor, you have the older body style (1996 & earlier), so your computer is mounted behind the driver's kick panel. You will need to find it's computer code, which you can find in a couple of places. First, try looking in the driver's door frame (passenger side in 1997 & newer models), in the front part of the door frame, in the general area of the door hinges. There is supposed to be a sticker there with 4 digits on it. Usually 3 letters and 1 number, it can be a letter and a number, and another letter and a number instead, but still 4 digits. Some examples are JOG1, C2D1, HUG2, etc., there are many different codes.
If you do not see that sticker there, then you can always find it on the computer itself. Remove the driver's kick panel, and you'll see the computer (it's a 6"X9"X 1.5" high galvanized alimunum-looking "box") behind the aluminum mounting plate for the emergency brake pedal. The computer will have a sticker on it that you should be able to see from there without having to remove the computer.
If you have any difficulty in locating either your computer or the compute code sticker(s), please give us a shout by phone or email, our contact info is just below this message, and we'll be happy to help you find this info.
