Post Please Help Me With Injectors

I am planning on going with larger injectors because of the mods I have already made to my truck...I was thinking about 24# or 30# injectors...I really need some input on what to go with...Please check out my profile and give me some feedback..

Hey Mike T...Will I have to have my chip reprogrammed for the injectors? What about the headers that are coming up soon?

Thanks everyone

Jon

HI Jon,

Your Manacharger kit already increases pressure to the stock injectors so you don't run lean, just so you'll know.

We prefer to do this by using the proper size fuel injector and then programming their pulse width data accordingly, but most blower kits use some type of augmentation to the fuel supply to accomplish this.

Yes, changing injector size will require an adjustment to your program.

And, here is the formula for determining how much injector capacity you need. It's based on your horsepower level, so it works no matter how many cylinders, rpm range, etc.

You need .5 lb./hr. of injector capacity for each horsepower. So let's say you have an engine with 400 horsepower, it needs 200 lbs./hr. of injector capacity. You then divide that by the number of cylinders, and that gives you the exact size of injector to buy. In our example here, 200 lbs. (remember, for 400 horsepower) divided by 8 cylinders = 25 lb. injectors. This is at 80% of rated capacity by the way, so a set of 24 lb. injectors would be fine in this example.

Usually you do not need to compensate for headers in your particular custom situation, you should have plenty of fuel for them since it's been augmented for the blower installation already.

Thumbs up

Thanks Mike...That is exactly the type of information I needed...This will be my next small project while I am still working on the possibility of getting my heads ported and polished..I have been in steady contact with Houston Performance.. They are realy the only company I've found that I feel comfortable with so far...If everything works out they are going to do a port and polish of the heads, valve job, and custom cam for me..

I had absoutely no luck finding any aftermarket heads for the 5.4L..And I've been looking for a couple of months now.

Thanks

Jon

Jon,
With all those upgrades. You might want to look into upgrading to a larger fuel pump to feed those injectors and supercharger, I'm not sure what the factory pump is, but i know the factory pump on a 5.0 would not support 24/30# injectors w/supercharger to well. Just an idea. Good luck

Thanks 2Fords, but the Magnacharger Kit comes with a replacement fuel pump..So that should no longer be a concern.

thanks

Hi 2 Fords,

Thanks for pointing that out, a lot of guys would not have known about that. In Jon's case, his Magnacharger kit does come with a high capacity fuel pump, as he mentioned, so he's all set in that regard. Magnuson knew it would be needed with their setup too, so thankfully they included that in their kit design.
