I miss my chip
Took my truck in a couple of weeks ago to have the drivers side leaf springs realigned. Pulled my chip just to be on the safe side. Get it home that afternoon, reinstall the chip and go on my merry way. First thing I notice is the engine is flat after it shifts to second gear. Wasn't like that before! After a couple of days I notice that it's DRINKING gas. What's up here! Sunday I open the hood to change the oil and what do I see? A processor recalibration sticker that wasn't there when I took it in. Mike T. to the rescue! Gave him a call Mon. and sent my chip back for a reflash on Tues.
Now granted I am sure they were doing what they thought was best. Called dealership and was told that checking for program updates is SOP for them. I told then that's all fine and dandy BUT next I want prior knowledge before you do anything to my vehicle I don't care if you didn't charge me. So now I am in chip withdrawal. Headaches, nausea, shakes, and cold sweats! Just thought this might be a word to the wise for some of you.

HI PS398,
You're lucky it even started with a different code! Usually they won't even start, but if they do, it's very common to be down on power and run very rich, just as you experienced. It's simply due to a mis-matched code, and will be fixed with a reflash to the correct new code, as we discussed.
GM dealers started doing that first, and they were and still are *very* aggressive and will reflash any computer they can find a newer software revision for. They do that because GM & Ford will pay them to do it, so it's another way of increasing warranty revenue, whether it's actually needed or not in a given vehicle. Now sometimes there will be a TSB and a good reason to reflash, of course. But this gets done whether it's needed or not at some Ford stores.
So when a vehicle comes in, some dealerships will automatically check to see if any different calibration is available, and if so, you get it whether you want or need it or not, so they can bill FoMoCo. Revenue.
As long as the dealer coes their job right and places that sticker properly with the appopriate info on it, it's easy to take care of. We can still do it even if they don't but it's a bit more involved, so you're lucky they did things "right", so to speak.
Hang on, it won't be long.........

Found a temporary fix! Started messign aroung with my NASCAR Racing 3 program on my computer and found that it kind of helps. Pretty good sim program. I have a force feedback wheel for it and love the feel when you get in the middle of a draft at Talledega!
