Super Chip and 4R70W Tranny
The 4R70W is rated to handle 700ft/lbs of torque. The 5.4 puts out 350 at 2500rpm. What effect will the increase in torque provided by the superchip have on the tranny in the long run. I use the truck to tow with and don't want it to self destruct. Ford did not leave any room for upgrades. Thanks to Factory Tech I now know that the torque converter multiplies engine torque x2, this gives you 700ft/lbs exactly. Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, I do plan to still get the chip, because the auto tranny definately needs help in the shifting department and the extra power is always welcome.

HI LHM,
You posted this before, and we responded to it, but we'll do it again......
Your 4R70W is not sent out by Ford from the factory already stressed to the max, if that were the case, Ford would have literally hundreds of thousands of failing transmissions every year.
Also, there are a good number of F-150's right here on F-150 Online running the Superchip, headers, an air intake kit of some kind, a supercharger, a cat-back exhaust system, and they are not having problems with the 4R70W with all *THAT* added to it. There are dozens upon dozens of F-150 Online members here who are running superchargers and other mods, putting well over 500 lbs./ft. of *peak* torque thru that tranny, and not suffering basic reliability problems either in the engine or transmission. Now I personally think it's a good idea to have a performance rebuild done on the autoamtic when you install a supercharger, but the vast majority of people don't do that, and don't have problems.
Let me give you some food for thought here....it's not the potential peak popwer output when pushed that determines a powertrain's effective service life; it's how you actually operate and maintain that vehicle that matters far more.
The Superchip is not going to shorten the service life of *any* component on your vehicle. In fact, your automatic transmission will last *LONGER*, due to the reduction in slippage because of the Superchip! You see, Ford uses a shift delay signal to deliberately elongate and soften each upshift, and this induces a good bit of slippage, to say nothing of a really slow and sloppy shift "feel". It's part of their "soft-shift strategy", to accommodate the female buyer/passenger, and other automatics do this as well, it's not just Ford. The Superchip removes that shift delay, thus reducing slippage, and that helps to extend the life of the transmission.
The Superchip also raises line pressure a small amount, and that too helps to reduce slippage directly on the friction materials inside your automatic transmission, again helping it to last longer.
You don't need to worry about the Superchip having a negative impact on your powertrain, it's not going to shorten the lifespan of any component.
Please feel free to give us a call if you'd like to go over this in greater detail,

Thanks, I wasn't too worried about it, and I know how the sloppy shifts and slipping can effect the tranny. Well thanks for the info and now I guess it is time to bite the bullet and order the chip!!!
