It has nothing to do with the theft deterrent system (which is what I thought when something similar happened to me).

It sounds like the contacts are not completely clean OR the computer bracket is pushing on the Superchip, causing it to not make proper contact.

I would inspect the computer contacts and also bend the rolled up end of your bracket flat (only where the Superchip sits). My 2000 did the same thing..it ran fine the first day...I let it sit overnight..then it would not start the next day. I pushed the chip (even with duct tape on it) and the truck started up. I discovered the bracket can push on the chip and cause the truck to not run. This solved my problem..and the truck runs flawlessly.

Good luck!

Dustoff is right on. My Superchip instructions mentioned the bracket, but I had to completely remove the bracket and modify it. It will loosen the chip. Check contacts carefully at a desk with a good light and a magnifying glass. Also make sure there is no goo on the inside contacts of the chip itself. "your alarm"- I'd be surprised.

Roggi purchased his Superchip from a dealer over there in Iceland where he lives, so most likely all he got for documentation whre the manufacturer's installation instructions, which are a bit skimpy, and do not provide much in the way of troubleshooting info or general tips.

We write a lot of our own documentation as the National Distributor, and with each Superchip we ship, we include a 4-page tips sheet that goes over a number of things, including the possibility of some of those mounting brakets puching on the moudle, and also tips about cleaing that connector properly, and what can happen if you don't.

It sounds to me like this is a simple problem that is most likely installation related, and connection related. The key here is that the truck starts fine without the Superchip, yet will not start with either the first or second Superchip, and that tells us that it's most likely installation/connection related.

Hi Roggi!

OK, so your dealer arranged for your computer to be sent to Superchips LTD there in Bletchley, England, which is where they originally got started back in the early 80's. Usually they send the Superchip and the computer back together, so they can both be tested.

That gives them the ability to look at *everything*, and they generally do that very quickly.

I'm delighted to hear you're up and running now, and getting good results, that's how it's supposed to be.

Your mileage may actually increase even a little bit more as you accumulate the next 1500-2000 miles. We have found that it can take as long as 2000 miles to see the maximum increase in fuel mileage from the Superchip in these vehicles, especially the 1999 & later units, as the fuel curves do their adjusting, as part of Ford's adaptive strategy. We did some informal testing the first quarter of this year, and that's what we found on late-model vehicles here.

Have fun Roggi, & thanks for letting us know you got this resolved so you can enjoy the Superchip like the rest of us!
