Hottip1 - Welcome to the best damned website in the whole WWW. I also see you're from just over the Narrows Bridge from me. If you'd be interested in joining the Washington Chapter of F150online for rallies and such - contact me at TColegrove@excite.com - we'd love to have ya join us.

In the meantime, and as others will very shortly tell you to do, go for a Superchips first. It is the single biggest bang for your buck. I won't quote you power gains for the Powerstroke ('cause I'm not exactly sure how much you can expect), but it's a *BIG* increase in HP and torque.

When Mike Troyer comes along - and he will - he is the man to trust. You will not deal with a more customer-service oriented businessman. (If you can get past his paisley colored plaid jacket - he's okay...)

Email me when you get a chance, maybe we can hook-up. I live in the Bridgeport Way and 86th St. Area in Lakewood.

Dear hottip1,

Glad to have you here!

The Powerstroke diesels respond very well to the Superchip, which adds 50 horsepower and 100 lbs./ft. of torque to the 1999 & newer Powerstroke diesel. It also helps the fuel mileage quite noticeably, anywhere from as little as 2 more mpg to as much as 5-6 more mpg, when running under a load.

Each Superchip is programmed for each specific vehicle, one of the reasons why they work so well. In other words, no "generic' programs, each vehicle is programmed according to it's own unique characteristics.

In the Powerstroke diesel we have a somewhat unique circumstance, in that this turbocharged engine is very de-tuned by Ford. Originally manufactured by International, and made available in power levels all the way up to 320 hp & 675 lbs./ft. of torque stock, Ford has de-tuned it down to "only" 500 lbs./ft. of torque. The Superchip will take it up to 600 lbs./ft. still substantially below the capabilities of that motor.

So between the fact that it's a turbocharged engine, and the fact that it is de-tuned by Ford, there is plenty of room for safely adding additional power.

Another important point is that the Superchip does not require *any* other modifications to your vehicle. Also, the Superchip works well with most of the more popular bolt-on modifications, things such as K&N air filters, airbox elimination kits, exhaust system changes, etc.

In terms of other things you can do to improve performance, we suggest using one of the airbox elimination kits, which you can find here on F-150 Online in the Digital Marketplace, their online store here. Reducing restriction on the intake side using one of these kits works nicely.

Reducing restriction on the exhaust side can help as well.

You can do these mods in any order you like; most people go with the Superchip first simply because it does the most for the vehicle for the money.

Please feel free to give us a call, and we'll be happy to go over all the details of the Superchip with you.

Wink

Big and Tall, I bought the truck in September
and with under 1,000 miles on it took it to
southern Colorado. 3 guys with all the hunting gear and coolers best mileage was 16, and around town about 14 mpg. Now I have 17,000 miles on it and it gets 16 around town
and 17 on the road. I do have a heavy foot and I drive it hard.

Thumbs up

I added the standard chip (50hp/100torque) to my diesel when I had about 500miles on it. Milage unloaded averages about 20mpg for city/combined driving. I get around 14+ when towing. I've only got 7k on the engine now and I've heard that as they break in that milage could get even better.

...and another Washingtonian steps forward. Guys, you really ought to contact me. There are 21 of us in the 'WA Chapter of F150online' and we're all as nuts about our trucks as you guys are.

One more time - my email address is TColegrove@excite.com.

By the way F250nut - I commute from Lakewood to Renton everyday - maybe we could meet somewhere along the way - contact me.

TColegrove - did you have anything to do with the F150 meet at Mt. Rainier (I missed)a while back?

Incidently, the reason I visited this post is because I've been wanting to trade my truck in for something a little bigger and roomier.

Uh, yup. That would be me alright. As it turned out we didn't make it to Mt. Rainier anyway. Due to the 'iffy' weather conditions we decided to meet at Point Defiance in Tacoma instead. We had 8 trucks at that meet. Unfortunately there were two truck owners that didn't get the change in location and went to Paradise anyway...

Drop me a line if you want - even if you 'upgrade' to an F250. After all, a Ford Truck is a Ford Truck.

Hey Mike! It's way too bad that you're not out here with us. Heck, I think just you and me would make up a rally all by ourselves.

...one of these days Mike, one of these days...
