Post MPG with chip 2

Just made my 2nd trip with the chip. This time to gettysburg PA. Hit my best mpg yet at 23.47mpg. The trip home was on scenic interstate 68, 455.8 miles on one tank of gas. 21.27mpg. Still not bad for 70mph in the hills. The only bad part is 93oct hit $1.82gal.

Cool

Allford - those are great numbers! The fact that premium gas costs that much isn't really that bad. Try achieving those numbers without the Superchips. The real cost isn't all that much more when you consider the increase in gas mileage.

I ran premium when I didn't have the chip. So the chip did add 2 mpg.
Even if it didn't raise the mpg I would hate to drive on a trip with no chip. The power & shifts are worth it.

Thumbs up

ALLFORD,

Thanks for the signature. Those numbers are amazing!

Are your tires stock? I am still hoping for 17mpg with my truck. I am currently getting around 15 to 16. Of course, I am a bit heavy footed!

My tires are the stock size 16" tires. The truck does drop to around 15-19 mpg in town driving and towing a trailer. I don't know why this truck does so good, Mike could have that answer. My Uncle has about the same truck and he never gets over 19 mpg.

Actually, that gain is right in line with what we see on these vehicles, anywhere from 1.5 to 2.0 more mpg on average.

Now as to why that particular truck is getting such high mpg humbers overall, with numbers above 23 mpg, will all get down to weight, load, and fuel supply, but they sure are excellent numbers!

I just finished a trip to Spokane, WA. The first 75 miles from Seattle are through the Cascade Mountains and then the rest is open interstate in dry flat conditions. When I last did this trip it was right after buying my truck and I averaged 14.5 mpg round trip. Truck was all stock then. On this trip two years later and equipped with the Airaid and the Superchip I averaged 19.5 mpg. What an improvement!

Hi Big'n'Tall,

So you've picked up 5 full mpg on that same trip, that is nothing short of amazing.

Since you mention that you first took that trip when the truck was new, I'm thinking that some of this mileage increase was simply due to the fact that it takes anywhere from 4000-8000 miles on a new engine for it to see it's best mileage and full rated power in these vehicles. I'd be willing to bet that close to half your mileage gain was from the motor having more miles on it and being fully loosened up.

Just to give you an idea, most people with these F-150's will see about 1.5 - 2.0 more mpg from the Superchip, and about .5 mpg from the Airaid kit, those are the numbers that get reported back to us. So given that, I would say that somewher between 2.5 to maybe as much as 3.0 mpg was directly due to the Superchip and the Airaid kit, and the rest was most likely just your engine being loosened up.

Of course I'm making a guess here, but this could well be the reason that 2 years later and with those mods you have a total of 5 more mpg.

Regardless of the reason, those are excellent numbers, and a great result, thanks for your post!
