Mr. Superchips_Distributor another ??
Well I just ordered my chip, this will be my last performance mod so I wanted to get it over with. Anyway I decided against a DIS unit and opted for the bosch +4 plugs and new wires w/ a chip. But I have no clue what wires to look into. I want something that is better then the factory but not to expensive, like maybe MSD or ACCELs. And I know you've seen and tested and have a lot of knowledge on what's what, so I need a recomendation.
thanks again for all the help
also forgot, I'll let you know how the chip affects gas mileage on a truck that already runs on premium gas.

soon: chip, bosch+4 plugs, plug wires, and an electric fan, eventuall new rims.

Hi Captain,
OK, so you're looking for a good set of aftermarket plug wires...on the "lower end", and that's a bit of a misnomer here, I like the Accel plug wires. Matter of fact, I like their whole 300 series ignition system, good bang for the buck, from the feedback we get. MSD is also most likely good, though I have to say I have no hands-on with their latest wires.
Magnecor makes, in my opinion, the best plug wire for the street, but they are expensive, and perhaps not what you're after in this case.
I think going with the Accel wires is probably you're best bet, in terms of a good "affordable" aftermarket plug wire.
We'd love to get your feedback on mileage as we discussed in that other thread. In this case, your vehicle has already been run on premium all the time, so it will be very interesting to see if you pick up more gas milege than those who have been running regular, which is most people. As we discussed, you should track that mileage over the next 2000 miles after you install the Superchip, as it can take that long to see the maximum effects of things that tend to improve mileage on these late-model vehicles.
Good luck!

Mike Troyer - got my superchip in yesterday and installed it today. I noticed a slight power increase but nothing that would jerk you in your seat or I would consider seat of the pants performance. But I can say this, I took my 60 mile(around that) trip this morning and with a 1/2 hour of nothing but stop and go traffic, I only used less then 1/4 tank of gas, normally it's a little bit under 1/3 of gas for the trip. Also I did just have bosch +4 plugs and a K&N FIPK put on this week to, then the chip so I don't really now which one did improve mileage. But I can say this, whenever I have reset my computer in the past the truck gets really bad mileage and then improves over the next few weeks, so if this trend continues and the mileage goes up even more I will be a very happy camper.
And I don't like the ford computer, I used that green brush that came with the chip, and after a few passes copper was showing on 3 of the connecters.

still to come: new spark plug wires, new rims and tires.

Hi Captain,
A couple of points.....first, the Superchip is going to do much more than the FIPK kit, as it gets 12 hp peak on the 4.6 and the Superchip is going to add 26 hp peak.
There is no way the Superchip cannot make it's power gains unless you do not use premium gasoline. As long as you use 92 octane at sea level, you'll get the rated gains, assuming we have a basically healthy engine, which I'm sure you do.
Second, you do have to disconnect the battery during installation, otherwise it's going to take some days of driving before you feel the effects of the Superchip and it's new programming, as volatile memory is overwritten.
Third, you also have to allow enough time for the computer to adapt to it's new programming, and that can easily take 1000 miles or so for max power gain. For max fuel mileage gain, that can take as long as 1500-2000 miles. I'm sure you can actually feel the Superchip at work.
With the way you have installed all these various mods basically at about the same time, you're never going to be able to have a good feel for what each individual change has done for you. This is exactly why we tell people that you should wait a solid month between mods, just so you *do* know what you got each time.
However, sometimes we all like to have our power right away (darn right!), so believe me, I understand installing these things so close together, a lot of people do it that way.
Have fun,

Well now I gotta wait for the whole adapting period to get over. I really don't care which gains from which mod, right now I've noticed some power increase, but a mileage increase for highway which was my nmber 1 goal. And since it has to adapt that means everything is gonna still improve. So I'm happy, no I just need time to put in that electric fan.
thanks for all your help.

Capt,
Make sure to include an A/C compressor on relay as well as temp. sensor for your electric fan. I installed a fan 1 mo. ago.
