QUESTION FOR YA MIKE T.
Mike,
This question has come up before I'm sure. I'm getting ready to put on a custom cat back exhaust system. Do I need to unhook the battery and reset the chip?
Thanks,
Andy

I have a few questions...
Is the chip installed by you guys or can i do it myself? How do I go about buying one?And should i get the chip after all the other upgrades I want to do (K&N intake, throttle body, headers, exhaust)?? Also how much would a flip chip run for a '97 5.4L Expedition?
Thanks!!

Mike: I posted a question for you Titled
"Chip Re-burn".
I guess you probably missed it due to the fact that I forgot to head it with th "?"
Could you please respond when its convenient for you.
Im in no hurry. My old chip is M4X0
The code of the computer in my new Lighting is CUX2. What would be the reconfigureation cost, and turn around time.
Thanx and best regards, PC187

Hey White Expo,
You can install the Superchip yourself. It's pretty easy. One of the members (Duke), has a How-to-Install-A-Superchip site. It's full of pictures and step by step instructions. It usually takes members about 30 to 45 minutes to install. Here's the site http://bloodog.com/superchip.asp
The Superchip, in my opinion is one of the best mods you can make. It's the only chip that increases performance in the city as well as on the highway. Of course it also gives you more hp and torque. Alot of the members as well as I also see an increase in gas mileage by 1 to 2 more miles to the gallon. I've been very impressed with the Superchip. I'm sure Mike Troyer will be here soon to answer any questions you have. He's very knoweledgable and freindly.
If you want to purchase the Superchip. You can do it here in this site. Just link on https://www.f150online.com/scpp/index.html
I do believe with all the other upgrades you want, the Superchip will fit right in and enhance the performance on your truck.
Hope this helps.... Good luck and welcome aboard!

Hi Spargo2,
No, that is not necessary; however, we always do a battery disconnect anytime we install a go-fast part on one of our vehicles, so the computer can go thru it's relearn cycle with the new part in place. It's strictly a short-term technique, meaning it won't make any difference whether you disconnect the battery or not a few weeks later, but it can make a nice difference in your *immediate* results with some parts, and we always do it. It's a tuner's "trick" to do a battery disconnect on any computer-controlled vehicle anytime you install a new go-fast goodie, and we always do. If you want to, fine, and if not, that's fine too.

Dear White Expo,
You can install the Superhcip at any time, first, last, in the middle, whatever you like,. Most people install it first simply simple because it's the single best bang-for-the-buck mod. YOu can do it any way you like.
With regards to pricing for the Superchip, please contact us privately for that info, as the Webmaster here does not want to have specific pricing info posted on the message boards, to keep things as "clean" as possible. We do have a special discount for F150online participants such as yourself.
Installation is easy enough that over 98% of opur customers install it themselves, in about a half-hour or so, some people take a bit longer, some a little less. The Superchip is a sealed module with a female data slot on the back of it, that simply mates to the male connector on the back of the Ford computer, so it's like Tab A going into Slot B, so to speak. The main thing is you have to clean that connector, and that is all gone over thoroughly in the included instructions, and we're always just a phone call away as well. I think you'll find it easy enough to install it yourself.
The Superchip will work just fine with the mods you have listed, intake, exhaust, etc., and you do not need to have a custom program done to compensate. We can do a custom program for the headers to give a bit bigger power gain, but it's usually not required in most F-150's & Expeditions.
Please feel free to give us a call directly, and we'll be happy to go over all those details with you, and any questions you may have.

Dear PC187DB,
No, your existing Superchip cannot be reflashed to any program for the new supercharged Lightnings. The Lightnings use a different Superchip, and specifically the Flip Chip. It stores 2 programs, and allows you to select which program you run on by flipping the switch. The file will not fit in your existing single-program Superchip.
Please feel free to contact us for all the details on this, etc., we'll be happy to go over all of that with you, and make some suggestions on what you can do with your existing Superchip as well.

Thanx Mike:
Whats your estimated gain from
stock(G-Tech readings consisent average of 10 runs)of
0-60-5.43.. 1/4-14.02..103.2mph.
I realize that the speed will read slightly higher on the G-Tech, but the thing was very consisent when I used it on my Mk V8 and then at the track.
The L has about 4500 mniles on it now and must have loosened up a bit, because when I ran the gt on it at about 1200, I was averaging around 6.02 14.33 98. I was beginning to think I was in possession of one of the doggy ones.

Tina & Mike,
Thanks for your quick reply, hopefully I'll get the exhaust on within the week.
White Expo,
I'm sure everyone would agree, get the Superchips. It's very easy to install and you'll notice it right away.

HI PC187DB,
So far, the feedback has been anywhere from 3-5 tenths improvement in the 2K Lightning.
You're right, that MPH is too high for a 14.0 run, should be reading about 99 mph, possibly 100, but not more for that kind of time, unless you had severe traction problems.
The G-Tech units can work fairly well, as long as you take the time to properly level them, mount them consistently, etc. It can be a fun tool to play with.
SO you had a Mk 8 too, eh? I'm on my third now, a 95 bought used with 29K miles on it. My first two were a new 93 & then I ordered a new 94. I like the change to the 94 & newer interiors, much better quality leather than in the first year, though they never got the full wood interior they were supposed to have from day 1, as they advertised on all their brochures, the dastardly villians.
My 95 has a little bit of the wood in the interior they were supposed to have, but that's about it. They never knew how to market that car against the considerably more expensive Caddy's, and so it fell on it's face, a darn shame.
I love that 4.6 DOHC Cobra engine!!

Dear White Expo,
The installation of the Superchip Flip Chip is virtually identical. It has a 2 position switch attached to it by a 2-3 foot long wire lead, and so you need to mount the switch wherever you want it, and that is the only difference, that one additional step.
