Post will superchip tear up tranny????

I keep reading that these chips firming up the shift. Does it also tear up the transmision? Are the shift delays in there so the shift wont be as hard on the tranny? I have a friend with a 97 mustang gt and a chip, he just had his tranny rebuilt.

I guess it depends on how you drive after you get the chip put in. From what I know is that the superchip is to give the max power and not to hurt any thing, if you are raceing with your truck now that is going to hurt it more because your tranny can't take it and this will take the tranny out over time. Mike will more than likely come by and tell you some more on this..or just shoot him an e-mail at mtroyer@compuserve.com

Dear this-end-up,

No, the Superchip will not do anything to hurt your automatic transmission. In fact, the life of it will be *extended*, due to the reduction in slippage, which makes the friction materials last longer.

You see, from the factory, Ford (and other automakers) use what they call their "soft-shift" strategy, and it's all due to the influence they feel that females have on the buying process. They assume that all females want to have a very soft shift, and therefore they program the automatics that way, even the SVT Lightnings, which strikes me as being a bit silly.

They use a shift delay signal to deliberately elongate and soften the upshift, and *that* is exactly what causes slippage, and shortened transmission life. We remove those shift delays so the transmission will not slip as much, and that in fact extends their life, it does not shorten it.

The shift delays are *not* in there to somehow protect the transmission, they do just the opposite, they *induce* slippage, and they do this deliberately, as part of their soft-shift strategy. I have personally spoken to *many* people inside Ford, and specifically about this, and that is exactly what is happening, they are programming the shift characteristics to be abnormally soft specifically for the female buyer, that is what it's all about, not protecting the transmission in any way.

Please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below if you'd like to go over this in greater detail.
