I have a 2000 Lightning and I am seriously looking into a chip. What kind of performance gains can I expect, are they more expensive than regular f150 chips? Thanks.

Welcome to F150online!

The Superchip for the new supercharged Lightnings, 1999 & 2000, is a bit more expensive than the Superchip used in the "regular" F-150's, simply because it is based on our 2-program "Flip Chip". For exact detailed on pricing, please contact us privately, our contact info is just below in my signature line.

The Superchip Flip Chip can store 2 programs, and for the Lightning is configured with the stock program in Position 1. Just in case the vehicle ever has to be operated on anything less than premium gas, we wanted the owners of these expensive and rare factory hot-rods to have that added protection available to them at the flip of the switch, so to speak. Then in Position 2, it's the performance program, which you'll leave it in all the time, unless you get stuck having to use a mid-grade or less while travelling out in the country, perhaps.

The gains on the 2000 Lightning right now are about 24 horsepower at a minimum, with some picking up a bit more, as they do vary a bit in power output stock, like the 1999's did. The 2000 Lightnings have to be tuned quite differently from the 1999's, but similar power gains were achieved once again for the 2000's. Some of the 1999's gained a bit more power, but it's not a big difference, in any case.

As far as what it wil do for your truck, most people are seeing anywhere from 3-5 tenths of their 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. The transmission shift characteritics are vastly improved, with shift delays removed, shifts firmed up progressively as you give it more throttle, overall, a more responsive Lightning, at any throttle position.

I installed a Flip-chip on my 2000L and the difference is dramatic! The not only is there is difference in the "seat of the Paints" feeling. The shifting and raised shift points make a big difference.
