Electric Fan removal?

Can anyone tell me how to remove the fans on a "troyer built" fan kit? I have a leak in the radiator at one of the pins that secure the fan to the radiator and need to remove the fans to repair the leak. I can't figure out if there is an easier way than to clip each pin. thanks for any help. I will cross post this in the "other aftermarket" forum also figuring it will get double attention from mod heavy members.

Thanks Ed

When I removed my "Troyer" fan, I just clipped the pins and then ordered a new set when reinstalling them. I removed them for a different reason than yours.

When you go to reinstall them you need to try to put a light behind radiator to try to avoid getting pins too close to radiator tubes.

I imagine a quick call this weekend to Troyer and a call back number may very well net you an answer from the horse power doctor.

Clip the pins. You do not want to reuse them.

Hi Ed,

Just clip 'em.

And please give us a call so we can send you out another mounting kit, as you'll need it to reinstall your e-fan.

Because you kindly provided us with pictures of your installation that we use on our web site, we'll be happy to supply you with a free install kit to remount that fan. We'd also like to get you a copy of our current installation manual as well, as there have been some changes since you got your kit, which was some time ago by now.

When you call us, ask for Anita and please mention your screen name (S'CrewLoose - I can't remember the full name under which you purchased that kit from us!). I've told her that a person with your screen name will likely be calling, and I've told her to provide you with the remounting kit free, as well as a new manual (which you don't need, but we'd like you to have our current docs anyway). She'll get your real name & confirm the ship-to address, & get those things right out to you ASAP!

Good luck,

You're more than welcome, Ed - it's the least we can do!

By the way, just as an aside - we just wrapped up the R&D on our dual 16" e-fan kit for the 2004 F-150 (new body style), and you'll be pleased to note that we're including everything needed to achieve the kind of ultra-professional, clean & factory-installed look that you did in your installation of our 97-03 F-150 kit. We debated on this due to the additional costs involved (which is why we didn't include all the "extra" materials in our 1997-2003 kit like we do in the kit for the 2004's), but went ahead and bit the bullet on everything from the split-loom to slightly different leads & ends on the dual fan controllers to how the temperature probes are mounted, a really nice add-a-circuit kit for the connections into the 2004's fuse box (which is vastly different in the new trucks), etc., etc. That was done due in no small part to the extremely professional lengths you went to in your installation - you could say that your work inspired us.

We've also changed a number of things in our 1997-2003 kits as well, for the same reasons - a neater installation. Like how we now tie into the A/C, etc. You'll see some of that when you get your updated manual.

That's great news Mike! I hope everything went well!
I definitely want to get the e-fans and underdrive pulley for my '04. I hope to be able to schedule a trip down there to have your local dealer install them. I'm waiting for the 1714 (or 9100 equivalent for the 2004s) to come out so I can get that then, too. I would think that the dealer could reflash my PCM back to stock tune while doing the other work, right? Then I would be able to use the CAN flasher right away. I'll be calling to see about setting that stuff up when I see it is availalble at the Troyer Performance website.

BTW-I really enjoy the Superchips PCM reflash I bought from you from my truck! It is fun to drive!

Hi John,

Well - it was a bear to get everything worked out with all the changes & surprises Ford gave us in the 2004 CAN F-150 (like a different type of power distribution system, power control all being via ground switching, etc.), but it *ended up* very well, is how I'd describe our e-fan R&D on the 2004 F-150!

It's a beautiful kit & a very professional-looking installation - the 2004 kit won't be shipping for about 1-2 weeks - just however long it takes me to write the new documentation, basically. We did several photo sessions & complete documentation sessions, etc., it's just going to take some time to figure final costs of all the materials and then write up a new manual for it's installation.

We can go ahead and take service appointments for anyone that wants to come here for us to do the installation right now, no problem - and yes, we can reflash the PCM back to stock at the same time, etc.

In your case, what you'll probably want to do is to not just wait for the 1714, but to wait for the new *custom-tune* version of the 2004 F-150 Micro Tuner - that way we can do our in-depth custom tuning for your 2004 like we do on all the other F-150's currently, so you get absolute maximum power and performance gains, in addition to being able to return to stock, etc., etc.

If you like, we can bring you down and install the e-fans kit and do the custom tuning all at one time - flash your PCM back to stock, etc., we can set that up to all happen in one visit.

We'll be making an announcement here as soon as the 1714 and the new custom-tune version s available for the 2004's, in addition to contacting everyone with a 2004 on our list and those who have already had us flash the PCM (like yours) to make sure everyone gets notification on this - then as soon as that's out, if you;d like to have us take care of the installation, etc., no problem - we'll be happy to make the arrangements!

Talk to you soon,

Excellent, Mike, that will be my plan.
I do most certainly want the "custom tune" version of the 2004 MicroTuner. I'll patiently wait until everything is available (got no choice ).

Thanks again,
John
