Post Superchip in leased F150?

I have an F150 on order (see sig). I have wanted a Superchip since I started reading this board. I am wondering if it would be a bad idea to put one in a leased truck. Is there any part of the install process that would be noticable after the chip is taken out at lease end?

quzax,

I am on my second leased F-150 and my second Chip. The only thing they will notice is the cleaned contacts on the PCM. They will only notice this if they look for it. It is highly unlikely so go for it.
Another thing to think about is tire wear. Do you feel that you will wear out the tires to the point of having to replace them at the end of the lease? In my case the tires will be worn out before I return the truck. Instead of buying a set of the OEM tires to "give" back to them at lease end I will buy the ones I want now and use them and enjoy them, then reinstall the original tires back on the rims at lease end.

Thanks JMC. I don't think I'll wear out the tires (my first car though so who knows) I had though of doing that. I was going to get BGF AT KO's but decided to just get the ford offered upgrade to Wrangler AT's. Are you leasing the truck in your sig? It looks like you have made a ton of mods to it. Will you just take them all of @ lease end?

Dear quzax,

Once you remove the Superchip and restore the vehicle back to original condition, they cannot detect that the Superchip had been used, it doesn't make any permanent change to the vehicle.

There are a number of our customers who are in the same situation, leasing their vehicles, and they do the same thing, simply remove the Superchip and put the cover back on the rear of the computer, and you can't tell it was ever there. Please feel free to give us a call, and we'll be happy to go over the exact details with you.

Congratulations on your new F-150, looks like it's going to be a nice truck.

just a word of caution. if you have any problems with the truck and take it to the dealer and the problem is associated with the chip the computer stores a certain fault code. with the new computer diagnostic routines from ford this code will be recognized and some dealer personnel will void the warranty. ford has sent numerous service messages to the dealers to watch out for aftermarket performance devices to warn them that any repairs associated with these chips are not warrantable.

quzax,

Yes, the truck in my sig is leased. Most of the mods were from my leased 97 F-150. Unfortunatly the chip had to be changed. I did sell the old one through this site though. The first thing I did when I got home with the new truck was call Mike Troyer with the computer code. Chip your truck and enjoy!

Dear alvanzach & others,

Thanks for your post.

Before this is possibly taken out of context, I think something very important should be pointed out here.

Your new vehicle warranty cannot be automatically "voided" because of the use of aftermarket parts, that is completely illegal under the provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

The only time a warranty claim can be denied from the use of aftermarket parts is under these limited circumstances:

The automaker must first *prove* that the aftermarket part in question actually caused damage to the vehicle, that the aftermarket part was the *sole* cause of a related parts failure, and that had that aftermarket part not been installed, the related part would not have failed.

That is the law, and it is very strong protection indeed. The Superchip *cannot* cause damage to the vehicle, and does not push any component beyond it's design limitations, and therefore cannot legally be the source of a denied warranty claim.

Ford has broadcast numerous service messages about aftermarket parts ranging from chips to brake pads to step bars to cargo bed liners. They sent out a service bulletin last year stating that if a vehicle came in for warranty repairs and a chip was found attached to the computer, the warranty claim would be denied, which was *completely* illegal under the provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and they had to immediately change that statement and re-broadcast it in it's amended form. SEMA immediately put their legal staff to work on this as soon as the original service mesage was released, and within 72 hours Ford re-broadcast that service message, amended to conform with the provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

Dear quzax,

Good question! I used to have it linked, but what happened was when you clicked on the link, it would insert an "invisible" letter "p" on the end, and not work, I have no idea why. So I went back and re-did it, without making it a link, so that people wouldn't complain that the link didn't work.

DOn't ask me to explain it, as I can't, and other links here work just fine. But that one never did for whatever reason, so it is as it is right now, and please accept our apologies for the inconvenience.

Ain't technology grand?

Hi quzax,

This is an excellent opportunity for everyone to get a good laugh about how little I know about HTML. It's all relatively simple switches from the little bit I've paid attention to, but I've never spent any time on it, quite obviously! The few small web sites I've built are all using canned packages, without which I'd be lost, and even with which I'm lost!

Thanks very much, I'll try playing with that and see if I can make it work.

OK everyone, get your laughs at my expense out beginning now!
