Exclamation Listen up V-6ers with the chip

Lets try not to make this a flame.

I'm planning on buying a chip in a few months from mike. I have the 5-speed, 3:55's. Is it worth getting the chip? Can you really feel a power increase? Do you think I would be able to beat a stock V-8 4.6L?
And, will the chip damage my engine or hurt anything in the long run???
And how much $ for one?

Thanks,

Fake

Dear Fake,

Someday you'll have to give us a call and tell me how you came up with that name, "fake fvc".

I know you are asking for responses from vehicle owners, and I'm sure you'll get those responses, but I thought I'd just make a quick comment if I may.....

You can feel the Superchip, and we guarantee it. The raw power gains on the 4.2 V-6 are 25 hp & 31 lbs.ft. of torque, but it's hard to equate hp & torque numbers to what you should actually *feel*, as a result of installing the Superchip. So I think it's best to think of it in terms of percentages. The Superchip is basically a 10%-12% power gainer, and that is what you're truck will feel like, like it's got 10%-12% more power, all the time, regardless of throttle position. It's there working all the time.

Now, whether you will be able to beat a stock 4.6 will depend on a number of things, primarly the exact configuration of each vehicle. It is in fact possible for the lighter V-6 configurations (short box, short cab, 4X2, etc.) with the Superchip to beat a heavier 4.6 4X4, for example. It all gets down to the actual power-to-weight ratio of each vehicle, combined with the rear gear ratio. There can be well over a ton of weight difference between the lightest and the heaviest F-150 configurations. If you take a 4X4 extended cab 139" wheelbase 4.6, and put it up against a Superchipped 4.2 V-6 4X2 short-cab, you could possibly do it in. But it will depend on the exact configuration of each vehicle and their respective gear ratios.

With regards to can the Superchip cause any damage to your vehicle long-term, no, it cannot. We have Superchip owners who have put well over 100,000 miles on their vehicles with the Superchip.

With regards to specific pricing, the Webmaster prefers that we have that discussion off the message boards, so please feel free to shoot us an email for that info.

Good luck with your truck,

Thanks, Mike. BTW, are you on here 24/7? It seems you post a reply within the hour of the post.. hee hee, J/K

the name fakefvc:
Well I am a moderator at www.fordvschevy.com , that is where the "FVC" comes in. As far as "fake"; well I use to own a 97 mustang and wanted the look of a saleen. Almost had it there until I sold it for the truck. My old screen name over at fvc, was 97 fake saleen. Everybody over there called me "fake" for short. The name stuck, and after I sold the stang, i just changed it to "fake" over at fvc. On other boards, I go by fakefvc..

Cool

The Superchip is definitely worth it in a 4.2 with the 5 speed.

I'll be good and just leave it at that. :-)

DAMN FLEXING DOOR CRACK!

Ford Engineering, reinforce the curve in the door! The cracks will stop.

Dear fakefvc,

NO, I'm not here 24/7, it was just luck that I happened to be on here at that time, that's all.

Thanks for filling me in on how you got that name! I've met with Steve Saleen a few times, usually at the Mustang anniversary shows at Charlotte, etc.

Back number of years ago, when Steve Saleen was unfortunately experiencing financial problems before Tim Allen and a few others (Ford) stepped up to the plate and helped him out, I had ordered a supercharged S-351 Saleen Mustang. I had numerous meetings with his staff, and the motor was to be built up to about the 650 hp level. I had this vehicle on order for over 18 months. They way it works is, you go to a Ford dealership and place the official order, and Ford ships a stripped V-6 Mustang over to Saleen, which they completely strip and rebuild according to their specifications. Well, that V-6 Mustang was siting there for well over a year, and I finally got tired of waiting when it looked like he was going to go out of business, and decided to buy another Corvette instead. It was a shame, as some of my contacts at Ford asked me to take that 650 hp Mustang on tour to a number of their assembly plants to put on a show for the assembly line employees.

While I was sad that it never worked out because I was convinced that Steve was going to go out of business and so cancelled the order after waiting so long, I'm absolutely thrilled for Steve that things turned around and his company did well. Long live Saleen!

Just another Saleen story,
