Q for Mike T.
Hey Mike,
I had the superchip installed last week, Rob was very helpful and took his time to explane what he was doing, ( this was on a very hectic Friday ).
Question:
I have 500 miles on the odo in total, I understand that the computer needs to learn my driving style, but I am unable to get my truck to peel/chirp out in first let alone second gear as I've read several members write.
Is this because of the weight of the 4x4, a computer that is slower performance wise than the other models(uat2)or am I being impatient ??
I am coming from a 99Cobra, which even in its defective form was pretty quick.
So I do not have any reference point other from what I read here as far as the truck goes.
I do plan on: Jardine exhaust and then an Airaid after I find out more info on the supposed tsb from gorp regarding the K&N airfilter.
Will the truck really learn and perform that much better after the 1,200 mileage or so computer break in period?
Or is this just going to be a slow truck?
The shifting is improved with the chip, however from first to second gear their is a noticable two stage "bump" instead of one solid shift.
I can not tell if this is normal or not.
Again, thank you for your time, you and your co. are Great people to work with.
Jim T.

Dear AHAB,
Most likely it's simply a matter of how heavy your particular F-150 is, combined with your rear gear ratio and the tires you have on it.
There is what we refer to as a "re-learn cycle", but the computer doesn't actually "learn" per se, it simply is a matter of it adapting to it's new programming. As long as the battery is disconnected during the installation, you're going to get 75% or so of what the Superchip will ultimately deliver right away. Then as you accumulate the first 500-1000 miles with the Superchip, you'll notice it gets a bit stronger.
There are very large differences in performance levels of these F-150's based primarily on their configuration, as there is a tremendous amout of potential weight differences between all of the various short-cabs, 4X2's, long beds, 139" wheelbases, 3.08 gears, 3.73 gears, etc. etc., to the point that some of them, even with the Superchip, the Airaid, & a cat-back exhaust still will not spin the tires.
I'd say it's normal, and please feel free to give us a call if you'd like to discuss this in detail with us.
Enjoy your weekend,
