Mike he superchip man.
Simple question,
I thought that superchip was in no way supposed to effect the warranty on a vehicle. Is this true, and if so why do i keep hearing about people being turned down for warranty work for having a superchip in the truck? Help me here man, With all these stories I am leary about buying one until the warranty is up.

Dear TAZMAN,
The Superchip does *not* affect your warranty, BY LAW.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is the specific legislation that covers this, and is the law that makles it *ILLEGAL* for a dealer to attempt to void a warranty or even deny a warranty claim. Unfortunately, there are dealers out there who will still tell people that anything from a different muffler to different spark plugs will void your warranty, and that is why it is so very important that consumers *know* their actual legal rights under the law.
The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act states that *prior* to the denial of a warranty claim, the automaker must first *prove* that the aftermarket part was the sole cause of a related parts' failure; they must further prove that had the aftermarket part not been installed, the related part(s) would not have failed, and that is very strong protection. So it gets down to a matter of just what does the part do to the vehicle; does it push any componetns beyond their deisgn limitations? And if not, then you are covered, plain and simple, by law.
Just to give you an idea, this doesn't mean you can strap a supercharger and nitrous oxide onto your brand new vehicle and have thw warranty remain intact, that's over the line of course. It means that as long as the part doesn't cause actual damage to the vehicle, you're warranty is still in effect, end of story. And unfortunately there are dealers out there who will try to bully people into these positions, and it's a shame, as it is very clearly against the law, and has been ever since 1983. As a matter of fact, some parts of Magnuson-Moss were enacted to break up the virtual monopoly the automakers had been able to establish by doing this very same thing, telling people that aftermarket parts, even normal replacement parts, would void their warranty. We can thank the good folks at SEMA (this web site is a SEMA member) for getting this legislation passed, and that is what protects all of us.
I see that you are pretty new here, as of 3/20 according to your registration date, so you probably have not seen the many, many discussions we've had here about this very topic in this section.
What I would suggest is to give us a call, and I will be happy to go over all the details on this with you. There are numerous provisions of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and we'l be happy to make you familiar with them, so please feel free to give us a call about this, ok? We understand your concerns perfectly, and this is very important indeed.

HI Tazman,
Anytime. I tell people that the bottom line is, it's your vehicle, and you have to be able to feel comfortable with whatever you do to it. Taking your time, asking questions, checking things out, etc., is the best way to make those decisions from an informed standpoint. Some of the things that certain dealership service department employees will tell people about what they cannot do without voiding their warranty makes my blood boil, as much of it is clearly illegal under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. And I don't mean just about Superchips, I mean anything aftermarket; we hear of dealers telling people, as I mentioned above, that anything from a K&N air filter to a Bosch Platinum+4 spark plug will "void their warranty", and it just isn't so, that is specifically against the law. It makes me angry *for* the people being told these things, as they end up many times being essentially "bullied" into limiting their choices about what is, for most of us, the second-largest purchase we'll ever make, exceeded only by your home! And the dealers that don't use these tactics hate to see it happen too. Thankfully, there are a lot of enlightened dealers out there, and there will come a day when this doesn't happen anymore, at some point in the future.
In the meantime, you're best bet is to inform yourself with the facts, just as you are doing, and enjoy your vehicle.
