Wink It's finally in !!!

I installed the superchip wednesday and love it. I must say thanks to everyone on this site. The knowledge I have learned in such a short period of time is much appreciated. I would also like to thank Mike from superchips for answering a few questions I had. How about one more? I was just wondering why it takes 300-500 miles to completely relearn the computer? Thanks again.

Hey SirJames,
Congradulations on your install of the Superchip.... great mod!
I've seen your post earlier and noticed no response yet.... I'm sure Mike may be busy, but he'll be here soon.
If I may take a crack at it though. I believe, from what I have read and understand. The computer goes through a learning process, to accomodate your driving habits and takes anywhere from 200 to 500 miles to program the way "you" drive. I know this is the case with the Ford factory program and when you change to the Superchip, I believe it has to go through that relearning process over again.

Hope this helps and welcome aboard.

Dear Sir James,

Congratulations on your installation!

The relearn cycle is prety much as Lariat Ryder described. Ford says it can take as long as 1000 or more miles and 30 days, but what we see with these F-150's, it takes about 400-500 miles in terms of the computer getting just about all the performance gain from the Superchip. It can take a couple thousand miles to get the absolute best gas mileage from it, as we recently have done some informal testing of this. We found that most of the performance gain happens immediately, and you do get better gas mileage right away if you keep your foot out of the throttle, but it takes a couple thousand miles for your gas mileage to reach it's peak improvement from the Superchip.

The end result is that you may notice that the vehicle feels a bit stronger as you accumulate the first 500-1000 miles. The relearn cycle is virtually transparent to the driver, this all happens in the background while you drive, and you really don't notice it per se, other than perhaps the vehicle getting a bit stronger.

Have fun!
