Post characteristics of the flip chip???????

I think that I want to get a flip chip so that I can use regular or premium gasoline. I would like to get as much info. as I can about the flip chip, e.g., cost, and so on. One particular question that I have is does the flip chip set on regular gas improve performance beyond the stock chip. My greatest concern in this regard is that the stock program seems to cause the engine to idle rough and be overly sensitive to different brands of gas. I want to have my truck purring, as I am very sensitive to the performance characteristics of my vehicles, but I don't require it to behave overly aggressively. Also, is it possible to get a superhip that is programmed for midrange gas or regular gas only. Again, what is the cost and performance characteristics.
Thanks

Dear Cybweed,

First, just so you'll know, we do not discuss exact discounted pricing here, as the Webmaster considers that blatant commercial content, (and we agree, of course) so please contact us privately for exact pricing info, we'll be happy to go over all your options there.

The Flip Chip is basically 2 chips in one, so it is a more expensive product than the standard single-program Superchip. The Flip Chip can store 2 programs, and of course allows to to select which program you're running on by literally flipping the attached switch.

Some guys lately have been going with the Flip Chip configured with one program for regular gasoline, and the other program our normal performance program requiring premium gas, just as you mentioned, to give them the ultimate flexibility and improved performance no matter what grade of gas they use. What we do in these cases is to make both programs identical, with all mods in each program, and the only difference is the octane level the engine is programmed for. So yes, even when using regular gas, you'll get better acceleration, primarily due to the improved automatic transmission programming, and the removal of transitional spark retards. You won't get more than maybe a handful of horsepower actually gained in this program for regular, if that, but it will still cut a couple of tenths of a second off your acceleration times, thanks to the removal of transitional spark retards, etc.

It's usually not your truck's fault that it is "sensitive" to gasoline brands, etc., it's the differences in formulation and additive packages in various gasoline brands. We generally recommend using brands such as Texaco, Amoco, Citgo, and Shell has also recently shown some excellent results. You may have found a brand that works particularly well for you in your area, and if so, stick with it. One of the best informal indicators of actual energy content of your gasoline is your gas mileage. Higher energy content generally equals better gas mileage, so it pays to track this on an ongoing basis, to show you which of your local brands tends to have a higher energy content. Idle quality is generally a fairly good indicator of the quality of the detergent additive package in each gasoline. Of course you need to run several tanks of each brand so you can get consistent results, and if you already have a bit of a rough idle, it will usually take 3-5 tanks of a "good" gas to clear that up for you.

You asked if it is possible to get a Superchip programmed only for regular or mid-grade gas. Yes it is, but it's not worth it, and here is why: Making a Superchip program for anything less than premium gasoline is considered a *custom* program, because it has to be writen from scratch, taking into consideration the different burn rate of lower octane, etc., so they have to make a special program for each time a customer requests this. That's extra work, so it incurs a custom programming fee. By the time you add the custom programming fee to the price of a standard single-program Superchip, you could basically be in a 2-program Flip Chip, thanks to our special F150online discounts. The Flip Chip, you see, *includes* custom programming fees, so it's best to just go with a Flip Chip if you want to be able to run regular gasoline with the chip.

Please feel free to give us a shout for all the exact details, our contact info is just below.

Good luck with your truck!
