Chip switch

Can you remove the superchip and go back to factory programming and 87 gas (ie long road trips) and back to the superchip programming without problems. If so, how hard is it. (1999 V10). Would like the performance gains when pulling but not sure I want to pay 1.50 for premium all the time, especially if I'm on cruise for 6 - 8 hours. Thanks.
Anyone know of a way to switch back to stock programming without removing the chip? How about a flip chip that has both modified and stock programs? I'd like the stock program on hand to save a few $ on gas on occasion.
Hey B&TMan, the answer to your question is yes. All you have to do.... is disconnect the negative side of your battery cable and pull the Superchip out (you don't even have to pull the computer out, as you did on your intial installation of the chip). Once you do and reconnect the battery, your computer will then go back to the factory program in the eprom system. When you're ready to do some pulling, just disconnect the battery cable(negative), plug the Superchip back in, reconnect and you're ready to Pull!

Dear B&Tman,
As others have mentioned, yes, you can easily do that. One thing that you might want to take into consideration is that most people do tend to see some improvement in their gas mileage, particularly when cruising on the highway. On average, it's anywhere from 1.0 to 2.0 more mpg on the highway on the V-10. It's merely a by-product of the increased spark advance that is used on part-throttle, so your results will depend on your operating conditions and fuel quality.
For most people, once they feel what the Superchip does for the vehicle and carefully track their gas mileage, they rarely if ever want to go back to running stock.
This may or may not be the case for you, only time would tell of course.
Another thing you might want to think about is using the Superchip Flip Chip. This Superchip can store any 2 programs, and lately a number of people have been having them configured with one program for regular gas, and the other program for premium gas. That might work for you, though it is a more expensive product of course, as it's 2 chips, basically. It has a 2 position switch pre-wired that you mount where you want, and you can change programs by literally flipping the switch. Please feel free to contact us by phone or email for all the detailed info on either one.
Good luck with your truck,

Dear Ebexpy,
The Superchip Flip Chip can do this, which is basically 2 chips in one, and can store any 2 programs, allowing you to select by literally flipping the switch. This is what our Superchip for the new Lightning is based on, and in that application it has the stock factory program in Position 1, and then the performance program in Position 2. It can also be set up so that Position 1 is for regular gasoline, and then Position 2 is for premium gasoline, etc., as it can hold any 2 programs.
It's been around for years, and prior to the new Lightning, it was used primarily by drag racers who wanted one program for the street, and then another program to use with nitrous oxide for the drag strip.
For the turbocharged Ford Powerstroke diesels, people will have us configure it with one power level on one side, and then a higher output program in the second position. Different power levels like that can only be done generally on turbocharged vehicles where you can alter boost levels, but I just wanted to give you some examples of how the Flip Chip can be configured & used in different applications.
Please feel free to give us a shout if you'd like more detailed info,

Mike,
Thanks for the reply, I know the question had been posted many times about how to best run regular fuel when you need/want to.
As I understand it, the chip takes the normal output from the engine management computer and modifies it to improve shifting, spark advance and whatever else. Would it be possible in a future release to provide a switch so signals from the engine management computer are passed through without modification? No need for a second program. Seems like an easier approach than the flip chip.
In any case, I'll be ordering the flip chip shortly. Is it possible to switch programs while driving?

Thanks for all the info. Right now, I guess I'm having a piston slap dilemma. I guess if I get a new motor (hopefully) I'll have to figure out if it's a 2000 or not. Thanks for the info. I would have never know about the piston slap TSB's without it. Great work, hope mine gets resolved without a hitch.

Dear Ebexpy,
The Superchip actually reprograms the computer, and once installed, the computer gets *all* it's instructions from the Superchip. This is why the Flip Chip was designed, to allow further flexibility. And no, we do not recommend switching programs while you're driving, that's a good way to confuse the computer, depending on just how different the two programs are in a given application. There are enough differences between the two programs in most Flip Chip applications that you would want to shut the engine off for a couple of seconds just long enough to flip the switch. Think of it as clearing the RAM in your PC; though that's not quite technically correct, the analogy is sound. When the engine is running, it is already getting instructions in real-time, and it's not a good idea to flip the switch while driving in most cases.
You could have us configure the Flip Chip like we do for the supercharged Lightning, where Position 1 is the stock factory program, and then Position 2 is the performance program. Recently that is what people here have been doing, with a slight variant; they have been ordering them from us with one program to use with regular gasoline but including all our other normal modifications, and then the other program for premium gasoline along with all the other normal modifications. That would give you a very nice result with improved performance and driveability all the time, and allow you to use premium only when you want the benefit of the engine's raw power being increased from programming for premium.
