4.9 Superchip
I have been doing a lot of reading and listening, and I think I am going to go ahead and get a chip. Although I do wish it had the same effect on my 6 as it does on the 8's. Although, I think 15 HP and 30 FT-LBS should be able to be felt. Are those numbers at all RPM's or is it an average? Is there an RPM were it helps the most? Are there any other mods that would compliment the chip well? Such as the headerS from clifford?
Also, I won't get the firmer shifts with my standard, but is there a chip for the driver to get this effect?
Seriously, how do I find my computer code? It is not something obvious to me. I know this is 20 questions, but I like to know what I am buying.
One more thing, I looked quick, and did not see where to buy it from this site, as I thought I read from another post. There is a dealer in my state, but it is a couple hours away. Thanks for the info. Feel free to email me off the list if you'd like.

Dear Rob,
You can get to our online ordering system by typing in the URL that is at the bottom of this post. That is our F150online Superchip ordering system. It is also in a banner ad that is in rotation at the top of these pages.
The gains on the 4.9 depend on whether you have the 140 hp version or the 150 hp version, but in either case, they are almost identical. 14-15 more horsepower, and 29-31 lbs./ft. more torque. These are peak gain figures, but because of the Superchip's exclusive part-throttle tuning, there will be more power available at any throttle position, from 1000 rpm on up. It actually has the same basic effect on the 6 cylinder engines, in that these normally-aspirtated gasoline engines all respond about the same, with anywhere from a 10%-13% increase in peak horsepower. This holds true for the 4.9, the 5.0, the 5.8, the 4.2 V-6, the 4.6 & the 5.4 engines, as well as most other gas engines, they tend to gain the same percentage of increase. So if you start with more horsepower stock, then you gain more from the Superchip, as the percentage gains stay approximately the same.
To find your computer code, there are a couple of places you can look. The computer itself is located in the driver's kick panel, behind the aluminum mounting plate for the emergency brake pedal. On top of the computer will be a sticker with several lines of writing on it, and the computer code will stand out as it's printed in bold capitals. It will be 3 or 4 digits, something like POT0, POT1, LLT0, LLT1, etc., and there are other codes as well.
Another place you can sometimes find a code sticker is on the computer's wiring harness "hub", where it attaches to the front of the computer. This is under the hood, on the driver's side down low on the firewall. The wiring harness "hub" will have a single 10mm bolt head dead-center, and that is usually your best visual clue that you're in the right place. When there is a code sticker there, it usually has a bar code on it, and then the computer code in boldface type.
We have a set of instructions for getting to the computer in that location, if you'd like I can fax them over to you, or mail them whichever you prefer, just let me know via email or phone call, our info is below. These instructions will apply to any F-series truck from 1996 & earlier, as they all have their computers there in the driver's kick panel.
Glad to see you join us here at F150online, we hope you'll stick around and hang out here with us when you have time! And feel free to give us a call for all the specific details for your application.

Thanks Mike.
Just a couple more questions for you. Is it safe for me to assume that the power curve for my engine would look the same as the newer 4.2 or 4.6? I know it is a completely different motor, put the new curve would follow the stock curve in much the same way? I know the six is different because it starts with less, but I try to look at absolute numbers rather than %'s because they can be decieving sometimes.
Does Performance products sell anything other than superchips?
Is their an advantage to ordering online? For some reason I am worried about giving credit card numbers over the net. I am sure it is perfectly safe, but I like to avoid it if possible. Can I get everything I need from that phone number?
If you could email me those instructions, that would be great. I am sure I could do it easily, but when things don't work perfectly, I tend to break them. I don't care all that much because my truck is not a beauty queen, but if I can keep from braking something easily, then great.
Thanks a lot.

4X4 Ford,
All I can say about the Superchip is that it's the best bang for the buck mod available on the market today. I've been running mine since about August or so and would never go without one again! It basically makes the truck jump quicker, faster, and harder. Also Mike didn't mention, my computer code could also be found on the door jam on a 1x1.5" sticker. At any rate, get the chip, you won't be disappointed.

Mike, checks in the mail, right??

Dear 94F-150,
You got me again Neal!
You're absolutely right, I hardly ever mention looking in the door frame for the code sticker on the 1996 & earlier trucks, simply because they are hardly ever there for those years of vehicles, even though they're always supposed to be. I usually just send the people to the wiring harness hub, and then to the computer itself as a result.
Actually, they are supposed to put those code stickers in that same location for every model year that has computer controls, in the passenger door frame in between the door hinges. The only exception are the 1997 & later Super Duty trucks, which will have the code sticker in the same place, but in the *driver's* door frame, in between the door hinges. What we've found is that the older thw vehicle is, the less chance that the code sticker was ever installed at the factory, basically.
You just have to keep me straight, Neal!
All the best,

Dear 4XFord,
No, I don't think it's safe to assume that your power curve is going to look like any of those other engines, if I understand your question correctly. You see, those 4.9 inline 6 motors have completely different camshaft profiles, and were designed to do one thing: produce a lot of torque down low in the rpm range, a real "stump-puller", as we used to call them. So that engine will not have the higher rpm range that the Triton engines have. The 4.9 will always make it's power at a lower rpm range in comparison. Remember, it's a big inline engine which means it has a very long crankshaft, which does not lend itself to turning a lot of rpm's, and that coupled with it's cylinder head and camshaft profile determines it's basic power curve shape and characteristics.
What you will have with the Superchip is a bit more power at every point along the curve, with a peak gain of roughly 10% more horsepower. I think that the best way to try to describe the result is to say that from 1000 rpm on up, you're going to have more power available at any throttle position. The engine is not going to suddenly turn into a tire-shredding monster, but you will certainly notice the improved power output across the entire power band, it won't be limited to any one area, or only at higher rpm's, for example. I really don't know how to better explain or describe it, it's one of those things that in the final analysis, you just have to experience to get a good feel for it I think. I just went back and re-read your post, and you are correct, the new power curve with the Superchip will follow very closely the original power curve, it will simply be a bit taller across the band.
