Chip comparison
I've seen the websites for Hypertech, JET and Superchips. Superchips' site shows the most detail on hp and torque improvements for a 4.6, Does anyone know how the other two compare(performance and price wise)??
Can't decide which chip to put in my truck to liven up my 4.6 for towing. Opinions would be appreciated....

Dear Grizwald,
Welcome to F150online!
The Superchip is the only chip that adds power at *all* throttle positions, and not just at WOT (wide-open throttle), so it's the only one that can really add power on part-throttle, which you need for towing. It also adds more power than any other chip, so for those two reasons, far more people here are using the Superchip than any other brand.
You see, Superchips is the company that *invented* this entire industry, and the concept of the "power chip", back in 1983. Superchips is also who the world's major automakers come to for help with special projects, due to their expertise, particularly in the area of driveability. This happened as a result of them being first, and this all occurred about the same time that computer controls were first being widely introduced into vehicles back in the early 80's, so the automakers quite naturally came to Superchips for assistance in certain projects. Thanks to the success of their work, the automakers continue to ask Superchips for assistance with projects from time to time, simply because Superchips can get done in a week what takes most automakers 90 days to do with all their red tape.
Most other chipmakers, including Hypertech and JET, only program for additional power at WOT only, because of strucure of the emissions laws. There are no emissions standards that have to be met during WOT operation, even for a brand new vehicle that just rolled off the assembly line today, so if you as a chipmaker only modify WOT parameters, then you reduce your R&D costs dramatically. And the plain fact is, other chipmakers simply do not have the technical expertise needed to make true improvements to ovcerall driveability, and increase power at *any* throttle position. The only other chipmaker I like is Dinan, who does primarily BMW's, and they too, tend to tune on part-throttle as well as full-throttle, so they're another good chipmaker.(No, they cannot program Fords)
Superchips optimizes every aspect of the factory program that can show actual improvements in torque, horsepower, driveability, etc. The end result of all this is that your vehicle will have more power available at *any* throttle position, so no matter whether you're putting around at 25, or making a run at the drag strip, your vehicle will be more responsive.
Another point is that most of Hypertech's and JET's chips require the use of abnormally cold thermostats, and the Superchip does not require anything else to make it work properly.
My point of view has a bias, because of course we are the National Distributor of Superchips. However, I don't care what the name on the box is, what I care about is the product inside the box, and that is why we are with Superchips. After visiting all of the name brand chipmakers in person at their facilities, from JET in California to Hypertech just outside of Memphis, we evaluated all of them, their skills, their strengths, their weaknesses, and Superchips was the winner hands down. They invented the process, they invented most of the highly specialized equipemtn that they use to reverse-engineer all these applications, and in fact, most other chipmakers are buying something, either hardware or software, from Superchips for use in their own operations.
You will get plenty of responses back from people who are actually using the product, and that's great feedback to get.
If you'd like to discuss any of this in detail, please feel free to give me a call at our number listed below, or, you can shoot me an email if you like.
