question for Mike T
Hey Mike, Ive got a quick question for ya...
My girlfriend ordered me a Superchip for Christmas(the wait is killing me)My question is will I need to jump those contacts on the circutboard? My code is FUG2. If so, can I use a standard computer jumper? Can I jump them now, without the chip, and still run the truck? Thanks for all of your help Mike, and have a happy holiday

Dear Blackened Ford,
Yes, your FUG2 code has been affected by the jumper misconfiguration. You can take a look at this URL, and it will show you what you need. www.superchips.com/jumper.htm
In addition, inside the Superchip package, there is a green card that will tell you about this, and what to do.
And yes, once you have identified the proper jumper(s) to close, you *can* do that ahead of time, so that it fires right up when you install the Superchip! Unless you are skilled in micro-soldering, I wouldnt' try it myself, I would advise you to take it to a TV, VCR, or Radio repair shop, as most of them will have techs that can do that type of soldering. Also, Superchips will do this for you, and overnight the computer back to you with the Superchip already installed if you like.
Merry Christmas!

Mike, Thank you you have been most helpful. One thing though, you forgot to say if I can use a standard jumper from a computer or not. I think ill pull my computer out tonight and check it out. This would eliminate any soldering and any inconveinence doing the "mail" thing. If not, maybe ill send it out tomorrow. Thanks Mike

No, the only thing you can use a PC jumper block for is for PC's. The jumpers on the circuit board of the Ford EEC-IV & EEC-V computers look like a pair of very small dots of solder, separated by maybe 1/8". You need to drop a dot of solder on the jumper to close it. I would suggest that you only let someone who is capable of doing micro-soldering do this. Just about any TV VCR, or radio repair shop can do this for you, I find that CB Radio shops are usually the best places. If you cannot find one, then just send it in to Superchips, and let them do it for you.

Thanks Mike for your time. I took the computer out this weekend and when i took a look at it, I realized that you could not use a pc jumper. Would have been nice though since a guy at a local TV repair shop charged me $20.00 to do it. Next time Ill do it!!!At least its done, and now on Sat. morning, ill just plug it in and be good to go. I even left my kick panel off to save me some time
Thanks again Mike.

Dear BlackenedFord,
You're very welcome!
Hmm, $20 is the highest I've heard anyone charge for that so far. Most guys paid $5 or nothing! But hey, $20 is still cheap to get it done locally, so you can enjoy it right away.
Have fun, & Merry Christmas!

Dear hdlouie,
I sent you all that info by email earlier today. If for some reason you didn't get it, please let me know and I'll be happy to re-send.
Expeditions have 2 locations for their computers; some of them are like the F-150, above the passenger kick panel inside the cabin, but more often the computer will be under the hood on the driver's side, in a recess in the firewall, very hidden. So you look for it's wiring harness connected to the front of the computer, which will have a single 10mm bolt dead-center, and then you know you've found the front of the computer. Code stickers can be in several places, the easiest to look for first will be in the passenger door frame, in between the door hinges, on a sticker, 3 letters and a number, like JAS3, for example, and there are many other codes too. If you don't see it in the passenger door frame, look in the same location in the driver's door frame. If you still don't find it, then just go to the computer. When the computer is mounted in the firewall, it will be attached to the firewall by a threaded post and a retaining nut, one on each side of the computer. This is what I call a "flange mount". You can only see the first inch or so of the computer, the rest of it will be back in it's recess. (hole) Now sometimes you'll get lucky and there will be a code sticker on the wiring harness on the front of the computer, so you don't have to slide it out. If not, then simply remove the retaining nuts and the wiring harness, and slide the computer out. It will have a big sticker on top of it, with several lines of printing. The computer code will stand out, as it's in bold capitals. Again, the format will be 3 letters and a number.
Let me know if you need more help,
