9100 and 87 octane

Well Ive been reading good things about the 9100 so I decided to check it out on Troyer's. Looks good to me (except the price ) but I was wondering if it was possible to run 87 octane gas with it? I know I wouldnt get the performance, but money is an issue.

Also(this is kinda for Mike), I know that the price on your website is just an advertised one and they are cheaper, but are there any other ways to save some money like discounts for being on F150online or a poor teenager discount Thanks

Hi Bartak1,

Sure, we can set you up with a custom tune for use on 87 octane - the 9100 has room for 3 different tunes, so that is easily done without sacrificing premium gas tuning for when you want maximum power gains.

No, there aren't going to be any further discounts on our custom tuning - our custom tuning is just that - CUSTOM. We're doing all the work, not Superchips or anyone else. It's not a standard pre-programmed 1715 Micro Tuner where you can call us and get an additional discount - the *only* products on our web site you can call us to get a better price on are the *standard* Superchips products when purchased separately - like the 1705, the 1715, and the 1725 Micro Tuners.

One other very important point - if we know it's an "underage" person ordering, before we will ship a performance tune that removes the top speed limiter like that, we insist on talking directly with their parents to make sure their parents *know* that their son or daughter is ordering a performance product that will remove the top speed limiter of their vehicle. We're not going to knowingly remove the top speed limiter in a high school student's vehicle (just for example) without their parents being fully informed and approving of that decision - I don't mean to sound like a jerk, or "anti-teenager," etc., I just have to be able to sleep at night. I'd want to know if someone was selling my son or daughter something that could make their 95 mph truck run 125-130 mph, so I can only hope you'll understand that, if that potentially applies to you. I don't know if you are 19 & out on your own, or if you're 16 and living at home, going to high school, etc. - but either way, I want you around for a LONG time, enjoying a nice, long healthy life.

Have fun,

Mike, thanks for the reply.

I completely understand about the teenager going 125 MPH thing.

So the 9100 is the advertised $425(or whatever price it is). Does that include the tuning that you guys do, or is the $425 for the Micro tuner and then another fee for the tunning?

Sorry about all the questions.
Thanks alot though.

Hi Bartak1,

Thanks for your post, & glad you understand the "teenage" thing. Quick story........... years ago, a customer of ours had us do a custom tune for his LT1 Camaro, then bought another LT1 automatic Camaro so his son would have one and they would both go to the drag strip & race together - a great father & son kinda thing. This was about 8-9 years ago, and this gentleman had us do a custom tune on his son's F-body, like we had done for his LT1. A few months later, his son ran off the road at a speed police estimated at 130 mph. We don't know if he was actually street racing, we just know he ran off the road at high speed, crashed & died instantly. Now in that case, the LT1 automatic Camaro's factory TS limiter is already 130 mph, but that didn't make us or his family feel any better, and left a lasting impression on us, as you can imagine. It was the son of a police officer - the son went out one night and apparently did an ultra-high speed run, at night, on public roads - and ended up going off the road. We can't prevent those kinds of situations of course, there's no controlling what people will do - but we've always had a policy of not removing the top speed limiter of a vehicle where we know the driver is "underage" without talking with the parents first, & thanks very much for your understanding on that - it's greatly appreciated.

By the way - just a quick FYI so you'll know, it's against the rules for us to discuss specific pricing here - we have to do that off the boards. If you'll carefully read all of the details in the text description of that part on our web site, you'll get to a part where it talks about including 3 custom tunes set up any way you want. There is no additional charge for the custom tuning, that's included in the price.

Hi Bartak1,

Just so you'll know, our hours are Monday thru Friday, from 10am to 6 pm - so we're not open on weekends, my apologies. We do work just about every weekend (we're usually doing something 7 days a week), it's just that the weekend is about the only time we have to get any extra work done (meaning racing, testing, R&D, getting caught up on custom tuning, etc.) - so we don't answer the phones on weekends, as we're not "officially" open.

If your schedule doesn't permit calling us during our normal hours, you can always just call us & leave a message on our voicemail with your name, number, and a good time to call you. There are some people whose schedules don't exactly coincide with our hours, or maybe their day job doens't permit them to call us from work, etc., so when we can, we're happy to return those calls so we can communicate & get people the info they need.

Hey Mike, thanks for telling me about the times. It look like I will have to wait till this summer(when I get out of school) to call, since by the time I get home from school everyday you will be closed for the day.

I dont want you guys to have to bother calling back after hours or when you are busy, so this summer I will call. Hopefully Ill have some money by then too. Thanks

Hi Bartak1,

You're very welcome, and don't worry about your schedule - if need be, we can always call you back over a weekend. If you prefer to wait until summer, that's fine too - whatever works for you.

Take care,
