4.6 Chip for towing
Welcome aboard Tony! Just ordered my chip yesterday and as Mike explained to me it can doing nothing but improve how your truck responds as you tow. It makes changes in your shift programming and increases line pressure in trans and eliminates the spark retard after the tranny shifts so your truck will still pull all the way through the upshift process. i may have over simplified the process but I think I got it pretty close. Of course Mike will be along to clarify this later as usual but this will at least give you some food for thought. Hope it helps!

Dear Tony,
Welcome to F150online! Glad you decided to join us here.
There are 3 basic areas that tend to give the best power gains for the dollar spent with these vehicles, and they are: 1.)Optimize the powertrain programming, via the Superchip. Adds 26 hp & 40 lbs./ft. of torque to the 4.6. 2.) Reduce restriction on the intake side, using an airbox elimination kit, like the "Airaid" kit that is available right here on the F150online store at a great price! Figure it's worth a good 10-12 hp. 3.) Reduce restriction on the exhaust side, using a cat-back exhaust system. I recommend using Jardine, as they make more power than anyone else. They have a web site at www.jardineproducts.com. My second choice is the Gibson cat-back system, same price as the Jardine, a couple less horsepower. Figure 10-14 hp, depending on which system you go with.
The sum total of doing those 3 modification will be about a 50 hp gain total, at a cost of well under $800. You can do them in any order you like, and we suggest doing one thing at a time, so you get a good feel for just what each change did for you. Or, you can do them all at once, for a big kick in the pants!
Now as far as where to get these items, we here at Performance Products sell the Superchip, then the Airaid kit is available in the online store here, and for the Jardine exhaust I would contact Jardine directly at their web site.
Each of these modifications will help by adding more horsepower, torque, and hopefully, you'll see a bit of an improvement in gas mileage as well.
The Superchip not only adds power, but it will also completely recalibrate the shift characteristics of the automatic transmission, and improve overall driveability noticeably.
If you don't already have one, you'll also want to install an auxilliary transmission fluid cooler if you have an automatic. They're very cheap, and great insurance for your automatic, and can be found in any parts store.
I hope this information helps, and good luck with your truck!
