Hey mike, superchip guy, just seein what ya got ta say bout the question i been askin? If ya do all these mods with the air so ya get all this extra air flowin real good , do the computer compensate and push in alotta exrta gassssss. Otherwise if you got all this extra air(airbox mod ,filter charger kit, velocity tube, maf mod, or any other air deal), ain't you just runnin lean(Hottttt). Whatta ya got ta saybout that. Also look at the power tube string/Velocity tube string and give us a what hey.)do the ol superchip take care of me.????? Superchip or not the computer shoots a little more gas in to maintain the correct air/fuel ratio.

Dear Cabraco,

Between the mass airflow sensor and the O2 sensors, they do a pretty good job of compensating for incremental increases in airflow. It will still attempt to maintain a 14.7:1 A/F at cruise. It's when you go WOT (wide-open throttle) that you have concerns, as that is when a lean condition can do the most damage, of course.

In general, the "standard" Superchip works just fine with things like airbox elimination kits, like K&N's F.I.P.K. kit, or the Airaid kit, and cat-back exhaust systems, headers, etc. It's usually only when you do major mechanical modifications to the engine that you need a custom program, things like porting the cylinder heads, camshaft changes, superchargers, nitrous, etc. There can always be exceptions, such as if you have headers, the Airaid kit, and a cat-back exhaust system, sometimes that combination is just a bit more than the mass air and O2 sensors can compensate for, and we need to richen up the fuel curves just a bit, but not very often. Most factory programs have *too* much fuel at WOT anyway for best power!

Another thing that sometimes requires a custom program is if you use an aftermarket larger mass airflow meter. They generally throw off the signal, and can screw up the idle, requiring an adjustment. Larger MAF's are generally a waste of money as a power gainer on a stock engine; it's only when you port the cylinder heads or otherwise vastly increase the engine's ability to flow air that you can gain power with larger MAF's & TB's.

I hope that answers your questions,
