4.9 horsepower. Cat-back or Superchip?
I've got a '91 XLT 4.9 completely stock except K&N filter. As far as "bang for the buck", what is the most effective means of increasing horsepower? Also, does the addition of a superchip make much of an improvement on gas mileage for high altitude driving? Any input would be appreciated.
Dear Purplevike,
I don't know if I would expect to get better gas mileage from the Superchip in high altitudes, and of course, it depends on just how high we're talking about!
As you go up in altitude, you have less oxygen available, so you burn less fuel, and you also get a little bit less power, the higher you go. With less available oxygen, you cannot burn as much fuel, and hence power drops a bit. The Superchip wil add power, but I don't know if we could fairly expect it to also help mileage under those ciircumstances. Please feel free to give me a call, our number is below, and I'll be happy to go over all this in greater detail with you, so you have a good idea of what you can expect at your altitude.
