What to do if your dealer reprograms the ECU
People have been asking lately what to do if their vehicle's computer has to be reprogrammed by their dealership's service department. It's an excellent question, and it affects both those who currently own a Superchip, and anyone thinking of ordering a Superchip whose computer has been reprogrammed by the dealer.
First, for those who are currently using a Superchip, if the dealer reprograms your computer for some reason (usually this will be because of some driveability-related problem), your Superchip will no longer work, because it has a different software revision in it, and this will cause the engine to turn over, but not start, in most cases. This is easy to solve! Superchips will be happy to reprogram your Superchip to the computer's new software. The dealership is required by Federal law to place a "Notice of Modification" sticker under the hood in a prominent location, so that any future technicians will see it immediately. They are supposed to write in the exact calibration code of the new software load. With that information, and your original code, Superchips can easily reflash your Superchip and get you back up and running with it again. This is done free of charge, for as long as you own your Superchip!
For those who have had their computer reprogrammed by the dealer and would like to purchase a Superchip, the same thing applies, in that we will need both your *original* computer code, and the information from this "Notice of Modification" sticker, and with that a new Superchip can be made for you.
In the worst case scenario, if anyone ever gets into a situation where they cannot find out their new software revision, Superchips can still make the Superchip, but they will need to "read" the EPROM in your computer, to determine it's software. This involves sending in the computer, and the downtime is no more than 48 hrs. if you do it during the regular workweek.
I hope this helps your understanding of this situation,
