Another Superchip 4-Sale
I recently traded in my F150 for a 99 Dodge Durango SLT+ 4X4. Commuting 70 miles round trip was just not economical with a V-8 (my wife got the Durango...I am down to using a Neon
)
Before trading in, pulled my SuperChip (didn't want someone to get something for free...wonder what they thought of my air box mod
)
Anyway, here is the information on my truck:
1998 Ford F150 XLT 4x4 SC Shortbed Styleside
4.6L V-8 w/ 5 spd. manual transmission
Computer Code: NLK2
It goes for the first $150 (check or money order)...email at gary.olmsted@quintus.com...

Tina,
We have the 5.9L V-8 in the Durango. So far (less than 600 miles) we have been averaging about 13.8 (according to the cute computer in the overhead console). I probably bring that average down though...it is very hard to stay off the gas with that engine
. It is much faster than my F-150 was (always averaged 15 mpg with it not matter how hard I drove).

$125 is a *fantastic* bargain on a Ford Superchip! Someone can pick up a great deal here!
Anyone with that computer code, NLK2, would be well advised to take this deal!

I already have a chip, but just for kicks:
Mike:
If someone were to buy this chip for $125, how much would SuperChips charge to re-write it with the correct computer code that matches?

Conqsoft: from what I understand about these chips, what you're asking can't be done. These chips can be flash-updated, example: if your chip is ABC2 it can be flashed to ABC3. But you can't change it to XYZ2. Mike will of course, tell me if I've misunderstood & completely got this wrong
Dear Conqsoft,
Superchips will not do that, nor will they allow any of their dealers to do that, even on the modules that it will work on. They just recently caught a dealer doing that, and that dealer was immediately cancelled.
Each Superchip is sold only for one specific vehicle, or another vehicle of the same computer code if the original owner sells their Superchip to someone who has the same code when they trade in their vehicle. When someone trades in a vehicle, they're best bet is to sell their old Superchip right here, they tend to go pretty quick.
So while it is *physically* possible to reprogram some (not all, by a longshot!) Superchip modules to a different computer code, it is not allowed by Superchips, and that is something that is consistent among most major chipmakers, not just Superchips. It's a product that is designed to be used on one vehicle, or another vehicle with the same exact code if you sell it used. But they do not allow the same Superchip to be carried to each new vehicle, it's not that type of part, and can't be, due to hardware changes made each model year, and sometimes even during the same model year.
The hardware problem that raises it's head is differing pinout configurations on the edge connector from model year to model year, and even sometimes from code to code, and vehicle to vehicle, and that alone prevents this being done with any reliability across the board. So Superchips doesn't want to open that can of worms, introducing possible reliability issues with the Superchip being reflashed to a different code, and I agree with them, I wouldn't either, it's an invitation to failure, and could potentially cause the customer difficulty. If all pinouts on all the edge connectors were always the same, it could potentially work, but they're not, so it won't. Here and there you'll find a few codes that will work with the same pinout, but it's nowhere near consistent enough to be made into any kind of policy.
I hope that helps everyone's understanding of this issue,

This might be off topic here, but as I am reading these different postings on this topic, I come up with a question...
G-MAN trades in a 98 4.6, 5 sp 4x,with a superchip for a Dodge duro 4x with a 5.9 engine and says "it's alot faster".
My question is, WHY and HOW can this Dodge 4x SUV be faster??
Every 5.9 i ever came across never made any impression on me as fast, but I have a 5.4 (97),fairly stock other than exhaust and K&N filter.
Anyone out there want to take a shot at this?

Dear Jean-Marc,
No, your current Superchip will only cause your 99 to not start, which is the result anytime you connect a Superchip with the wrong code to any Ford. Each Superchip has to be programmed for each specific vehicle, the Superchip is not a "generic" part.
Your 1999 Ford will require a new Superchip. Superchips are not transferrable to the next vehicle, they are only meant to work on the original vehicle they were programmed for.

Well you sold your F150 because it used more gas and it sounds to me like you have a new gas problem. What gives?

I have no problems with my gas mileage and cannot answer your question. I've been here alittle longer and am the original Gman
