Superchip or Hypertech tuner???
Hello!
I know this has probably been asked before but I need to know from all of you experts out there, plus I'm a newbe I get one redundant question.
I recently changed the tire and rim size on my truck plus 2 inches (16 to 18 rim), and would like to purchase a Hypertech Power Programmer III or a Superchips Microtuner to program the correct tire ratio, I have seen a few websites that sell these and in fine print it says that it may not work on my vehicle.
I'm leaning towards a Superchips tuner.
Not sure what will work, Mike if you could help I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi tsmscscs,
Sure, I understand your concern - and we have to say that, simply because it's true - the speedo recalibration isn't in the PCM in some of the vehicles the 1715 Superchips Micro Tuner (and the Hypertech unit) can be used on.
The deal is, the speedo recalibration can be done in the PCM's program in the 1999 & newer F-150's - but not in the pre-1999 models, as that control is not in the PCM's program. So your 2002 will not have an issue with that, you'll be able to recalibrate your speedo, no problem!
Obviously, we'd prefer to see you use the Superchips unit, as it delivers better results due to being individual vehicle code-specific, instead of "generic" - the reality is, either of those units will be able to recalibrate the speedometer in your 2002 F-150.
There is one other option available that I don't know if you are aware of, and that is the custom-tune capable version of Micro Tuner - in that version of the Micro Tuner, we can deliver even higher power & performance gains, as we do in-depth custom tuning (even on bone-stock trucks). It costs a bit more, but for those who really want to maximize their performance, driveability, etc., that is the ultimate option in this regard. If you have any interest in that, just give us a quick call at your convenience (our number is listed just below) & we can go over the specific details with you, and let you know just how much more performance you'll get in your specific truck - calling us will also get you the best pricing on the Superchips products.
I don't know much much of a difference there is in your new tire height, but if the speedo is off by significantly more than about 3-5%, you might find that the shift points and/or TQ (torque converter) lock/unlock points have changed or seem to be "off" a bit - if so, you'll find that recalibrating the speedometer also takes care of any such symptoms.
Best of luck whatever you decide,
