Hi K,

The first thing you need to know is that there really is no such thing as a "gas mileage chip." There are *performance* chips, but no "gas mileage" chips.

Even though in many cases (especially with the 7.3 PSD's) you do actually see improvements in mpg from our performance tuning, that is a by-product of the performance tuning - not it's intent, design purpose, etc., nor is better mpg in any way promised or guaranteed. If there were such a thing as a "fuel mileage chip," the automakers would have done it long ago, as they have extremely high CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) mandates from the Feds that their vehicles have to meet each model year, fleet-wide. That's the whole reason why they switched over a decade ago from 10W-30 to 5W-30 oils - for just one half of one tenth of a mile per gallon! That's right, just 0.05 mpg gain. And that is also the reason why they have also since dropped to the 5W-20 weight oils they now recommend in newer vehicles - - just to give you an idea of what extreme lengths the automakers (all of them) will go to in order to improve fuel mileage.

Now with all of that having been said................ yes, it is indeed true that the 7.3 PSD's generally do pick up some very nice mpg gains from our performance tuning, and you will hear & see a lot of PSD owners say that, to be sure, as that does happen the vast majority of the time. In fact, I have yet to see any 7.3 PSD not pick up some mpg gains either when towing, or when running empty but at high enough highway speeds to put some load on the motor.

To give you an idea - The times you will usually see better mpg in that PSD from our performance tuning is when the motor is working under a load - like when towing for example - or if being driven empty, at Interstate highway speeds of 70 mph and above. For example, we've seen many F-350 "duallys" running empty, cruising at 80 mph on the Interstate, pick up 4 to as much as 5 more mpg - absolutely huge mpg gains - which were never intended, it's just a by-product of the performance tuning. And a very nice by-product, of course.

When towing, they usually gain about 2-3 more mpg on the +70 HP program, as compared to the mpg they get under those same towing conditions when running on the stock factory program.

The best way to get yourself up to speed on this is to drop by our web site at www.TroyerPerformance.com - click on "Shop" once the home page loads, and then go into the Superchips section, and look at the description for our Part# 1705 - that is the 3-program Superchips Micro Tuner for the 7.3 Powerstroke diesel. It has programs that will add +70, +90, or +110 HP - we recommend using the 70 HP program, and that's the one that you have the best potential for better mpg with. The Superchips tuning for the PSD has the best power gains & mpg improvements at the lowest EGT temperatures, a critical factor - Superchips has been tuning the 7.3 PSD longer than anyone (other than Ford), and has more R&D into that platform, which is why most people use Superchips for their Powerstroke diesels - and this performance tuning still maintains strict 50-state CARB & EPA approval as well.

Feel free to give us a call at our number listed below to go over all the various details, get the best pricing, etc., we'll be happy to help.

Good luck with your truck,
